MAF Failure

Went to use my D4 this afternoon and had an amber EML light on, so took SWMBO's Kia instead. When I got home I pulled the codes and cleared down. The following come back immediately, so I will swap the MAFs over to check the fault follows the device. As I suspect the MAF rather than wiring, I was wondering if there are any brands to choose or avoid? My usual go to is Advanced Factors who have a Hella or Pierburg part. Elsewhere Bosch and VDO appear to be the main alternatives from the larger brands. Will likely go with a Hella part from AF.

Siemens VDO is the original manufacturer for the MAF in the diesels.

Thanks, that is good to know and fits with the two one the car being made in Germany. Once I confirm component failure I will source a VDO replacement.

Steve

I'm new to Land Rover but in previous cars I've always stuck to Bosch. Avoid anything unbranded from ebay etc, I've heard far too many failures.

I believe Bosch is the OE for the MAF in the D4 SCV6 while Denso is the OE for the MAFs in the D4 V8 as well as the D3 V8 and the D3 V6.

In this case you’d get the same component as you would buying LR branded one but without the green oval “value add” on the price tag.

My P010D error became a P013D and moved back again after swapping the MAFs, so time to order a replacement.

Steve

Steve,

Think I have a new genuine one in my garage if you'd like a saving on shop price

Thanks for the offer, but I had ordered one just after my previous post. Hopefully it will be arriving this morning.

All fixed. My (eBay) order from Maltings arrived about an hour ago, in time for a lunch break. The faulty MAF did look dirty compared to the other, so once I had confirmed which was faulty I thought I had nothing to lose if I tried spraying brake cleaner on the sensor. It still showed an error, so good to know it wasn't just dirty.

Maltings listed a VDO unit on their website and eBay, but for some reason the eBay item was ~£10 cheaper. The delivered part is Continental branded, but I believe they own the VDO business now, so happy with the outcome. The codes have cleared and it runs OK. Not been on a test drive yet as I need to replace the rear brake parts first, assuming the wear sensor arrives today.

Regards,
Steve
