Insurance - cheapest compared to best?

I have Land Rover's own insurance which I guess some would say is expensive but has anyone done true like for like comparisons on cover and provisions - or at £735 p.a. fully comp protected with wife incl. on a KT10 postcode, am I really paying way over the odds??

Just paid £354 incl protected bonus for me and swmbo from Privilege. NFU quoted the best part of £700 and LR £590.

I know I don't get the off road cover but apart from that get good service from them (very good for courtesy cars) I think someone also mentioned that they are "chip friendly" if I decide to go that route.

NFU in Cheshire for my D3 charge me £450 fully comprehensive, any driver over 21 years, fully protected NCB, off road use with full business use and they also cover for free an Ifor Williams trailer when with or not with the car. In addition it covers EU use as well and contents to a set value. Lots of other bits with it too.

Like for like NFU were the cheapest I could find as I do quite a high mileage and NFU don't rate mileage. The fact the policy is new for old for the first 2 years and off road cover made it the cheapest I could find on like for like. Sure the like of e sure were about £20 or £30 cheaper but the policy was not as extensive.

I'll stand by NFU in Ludlow. By far the cheapest and they use local knowledge not the post code lottery.

Got the D3 and Freelander (inc GAP for 2 yrs on the D3) for under £500.

I got our RRS insured with MoreThan for £375. (Two drivers, both aged 36, OX11 postcode)
Considering this is a £45K car, it's a good price. Many of the other insurers were hundreds more. However, I didn't appriciate that the NFU policy includes GAP insurance and off-road, therefore on next renewal I will check them out again and consider changing for upto £100 more.

For insurance quotes, try http://www.confused.com/
It is a great way of getting loads of quotes in one go.

I am with Direct Line and pay £785 Fully Comp with 5 Yrs NCB, car sits on my drive in Kingston. I am only 25 so I don't think this is too bad for a £40k car.

What mileage are you all declaring, I've found that as soon as you tell them you do more than 20K per year the premium goes sky rocketing.

12K - same as my LR Freedom Deal - seems fair to increase premiums as mileage increases - in general you're increasing the chances of a bash Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Hi,
I'm paying £342 fully comp, full no claims and one named driver, I only do about 4k a year due to the fact we are surrounded by water. It does'nt make any difference if your vehicle sits outside in a garage, mileage. We dont have much competition for anything here. Sad Sad

Steve
Are you with LR insurance as well as finance?
The quoted for my renewal - £1400!!!!!!! (yes - not a typo) Shocked Went to a mate who has his own brokerage - v cheap
When I cancelled LR they claimed 'mistake on letter' and cost should have been £716
My knowledge of Customer Data base Management and Document Composition for Transactional Print customers means that 'mistakes' like that are single digits in a million - do you think they would have informed me of the error if I had renewed?

Anybody else got LR insurance?

I did my finance through Yorkshire Bank Asset Finance - they do a great HP deal with residual values - works out v cheap - APR at 6.5% with no mileage limits - good service too - have used on 3 cars over 7 years now
Happy to provide phone numbers if any potential purchasers interested?
Now Golf GTI PP, 7 speed DSG.

Nope - Direct Line. I haven't checked with them about Off Road yet. Renewal is in June and I will check with both NFU and www.confused.com Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

More than Impressed

We have just paid £283 to insure our new HSE Disco3 TDV6 with a £250 excess. It is fully Comp with 2 drivers and we have declared that it sits on the driveway.

Surprising thing is that its a £40 discount on last years renewal on our old 1999 Disco2. Confused
