Coolant Leak - FBH. Advise Needed urgent please

Good evening everyone,

In need of some urgent advise please!

I chased a coolant loss down to the FBH on this pump looking type of casing.

It seems to be leaking from the plastic casing not the hoses. Can someone confirm that this is part no. ‘JEX000030 - Water Pump’ please so I can order it?

Most importantly though can I bypass this if I connect the hoses together so I can still use the car until it ships over and if anything needs deactivated via IID Tool? Had the car for 4 years now and FBH hasn’t even come close to enabling once in Cyprus so don’t think I’ll be needing it any time soon.

Thank you for your time

Yea you can join the pipes directly.

Just unplug the large connector to prevent it accidentally activating.

Thanks for that!

I actually found a water pump locally so going to attempt that tomorrow.

Do you know if its a difficult task (to remove) and is it just as simple to join the hoses and the connector?

Remove the headlamp, then move the screen wash bottle spout to give better access to the clips on the pipes, a straight forward job really.

And for my last question (hopefully),

Is it just a normal coolant bleed after that? Does the FBH pump have to work somehow in order to circulate the coolant in order to bleed or will the system fill up when water is added?

Apologies for all the questions but my LR specialist is away (and also an 100 mile drive away) and I'm attempting this with a friend!

Thanks

you don't need to run the pump to bleed.

If needed:
There is a bleed screw on the coolant tank and one at the front of the engine on the end of the small pipe.

Personally I wouldn't be rushing to use the bleed points for this job, incase they leak afterwards. Probably unlikely though

Loosen the coolant pipes on the pump just so they are leaking a little water. Then with the help of your friend, try and move them over to the new pump quickly to avoid water loss.
Put your thumb over the end of the pipe. or crush the pipe a few inches away from the end

Thank you Pete K.

I really appreciate the info. Will try to not make a mess and I'll use the bleed line in front of the engine bay as we normally do just in case!

Thanks once again!

Start the engine before putting any fluid in after a short while start to fill it to the level on the expansion bottle. I have never had to bleed one when I changed the FBH as whole unit. Just check the level after a couple of runs.

Cheers for that!

Off topic but! Since my front grille clips are on their final clicks and I will attempt to do this without removing it (hence I won’t be able to see the exact markings of the expansion tank), about midway is the correct max level right?

When it was on a steady level everytime I checked it used to be there. When looking from above it fills the second half of the expansion tank just above the smaller hole (at least that where it always used to be).

I used a pen marker on the ridges to highlight min and max.
Makes it much easier to see the level

Good evening all,

As my luck would have it (everything seemed too simple to be true), upon fitting the new water pump today I discovered that the old pumps power supply is integrated into the pump and the new one come with a plugged in power supply but no plug or wires.

Is it as simple as finding a plug that fits and connecting the wiring from the old one onto it?

I started a new threat in hope of getting any info on what plug I am after or if this is indeed a good and permanent solution.
