Installation rear differential e-diff

Hello everyone, I ask you for help, you can install an original LR "e-diff" self-locking rear differential on a Discovery 3 with standard differential. Did any of you try? thank you in advance!

From memory, it’s factory fit only. I suppose anything is possible if you have the money though.

hello thanks for the reply, I hope that some of you have done this to understand what should I buy and what procedures to follow. This is what I managed to understand: the differential that I should buy, including an actuator, is shown on p. 1 letter A. Later on p. 5-6-7 there is exploded with all the pieces that compose it.
Page 9 instead we see where is installed the control unit dedicated to the differential control, I wonder if I could have it already installed? Finally page 12 shows the whole circuit and the components involved. I saw that the differential should also have an oil temperature probe connected to the control unit. The circuit also has a device in point 1 that is called "ignition switch" that I did not understand what it is and where it goes? For the rest two fuses and the electrical circuit that I hope is already included in the machine system.

There was a write up in the Discovery Owners club magazine a few years ago on this subject, and it was quite complicated especially on the wiring front , a new loom was required. I believe the individual robbed a loom off a written off vehicle.
It might be worth contacting them http://www.discoveryownersclub.org/

answer is no, if your rear differential is a kind of open differential and you need a rear diff lock
you can go with 3rd party module, e.g.

ARB diff lock for LR3

I have been looking to do this "upgrade" to e-diff my self. I have at hand an E-diff from a 2005 RRS SC.
the seller wants £490 for the diff, ecu and fiting it for me. But i had to fix the wiring my self and change the ccf.

from what i could figure out while i was retrofiting rear ac, there is a 4 way connector in the A pilar. this serves to power the rear ac fan and Ediff ecu and 2 more thigs that I do not know. so all that is needed is a heavy gauge wire from this 4 way connector and to the rear e-diff ecu. and 4 wires for the Canbus. 2 wires in to the module and 2 wires out. I do not have this wiring present in my vehice.
But that can easy be made up.. and a change in the ccf. thats easy.

There are wires from the Ediff motor to the ecu that needs to be in place too.

so if you go for the LR parts, make sure to get the connectors..

Mr.P

Working on this myself.
Donor D3 had the Rear diff lock.

So if you have all the parts it is just some hours of work.
And making adjustments in de CCF

thank you all you are very helpful! I hope to succeed in this venture! I'm a bit 'far from you, too bad ... in Italy I could be the first to do this. It is very difficult to find the components and find a mechanic who can do the job ... I have a Discovery 3 HSE OF 2005, if I could not find the material in Italy do you have any seller in your area that could have it?

I ask you one more thing, if the way of the ediff is not viable, the ARB blocks do not create problems with the TERRAIN RESPONSE? the article posted previously by z1234567890 seems to work all regularly. Your experiences?

i think i was a bit lucky that the donor D3 i used had the E-diff.
(which i did not know until the body came off)

Since it was there i decided to build it in the D3 i was building

The donor D3 had all original parts.
So it was just placing both next to each other and transfer all the needed parts.

I only have to connect the CAN wires and the power lines.
Than update the CCF and it should work.

If you have to search for all parts,
It will probably take a lot of time.

i have no experience with the ARB system on a D3 .
