Dash warning lights and smoke on start up

Greeting to you all, I hope you don’t mind if I pick the hives mind over the two wee problems I have, which are both unrelated.

1, I keep getting the following fault reoccurring and this is what the Gap too; reading says “B1B44-01 (6C) Rear right outer sensor - general failure information - general electrical failure.
This is intermittent though, because I can clear it and it can stay away for a bit or ages. The brake wear sensor is also new so I don’t think it’s that, unless my disco 3 has decided it doesn’t like any other parts bar original LandRover ones.
The dash lights that come on are the Brake system, the Suspension System and the Dynamic Control System ones.

2, This fault, when the disco is first started in the morning I get a belch oh blueish coloured exhaust which clears up really quickly if I rev the engine quiet well for a few seconds, anyone else get this/know what it is and how to fix it.

I assume that error is a parking sensor, so wont be the cause of your issues, either needs replacing or there is a wiring short as the cable may be chafing somewhere.

How good is the battery on the car? Do you have access to a meter to test the CCA of the battery and overall charge state. The Christmas tree lights on the dash can often be the sign of a battery thats goosed!

smokey startups at this time of year can be a number of things, glow plugs being knackered is the most likely but can also be the battery isnt able to properly energise them so I would look at the battery first and cross that off the list!

2. Smoke

Check the injector offset values to rule them out

Blue smoke is oil. Most common issue in cars is the turbo seals or valve stem seals in head.
Probably the later though not a common d3 issue.

I wouldn’t rush down the glow plug route unless it won’t start under 0C as it could be very costly if they snap in removal.

These are the readings I got the other day with the gap tool, me thinks there’s a bit of an off balance along the way 🤔

Ref the battery, I don’t have access to a cca, but will talk nicely to my local garage to get them to check that it’s not goosed.

Looked through a few more posts and going by what I’ve found these values are within the limits of 700 to 1300 so all good.
This narrows the possible solution down to a new battery, new glo plugs or both.
Further up dates as I’ve done them to follow.

well I don't think it's going to be the glowplugs in this reasonable weather we have. And it's a very costly and troublesome why to find out.

As for the battery. Well if it takes a while to start or sluggish, maybe. A new battery never hurts on these

Is the oil level dropping on the dip stick?

Thanks Pete K, by what you’re saying it’s not the glow plugs, I’ll still do a power draw check when I get a chance, just for peace of mind.

She starts no problem, nothing sluggish about that, but I’ve no idea how old the battery is mind.

The oil level seems to be staying the same too.

To add a bit more to this wee post here’s a couple of shots of the exhaust after the first engin start of the day, I get this each day, but only on the first start up, every one after that is all clear, even if the engin has gone cold again and been sat for hours.
Has anyone got any idea what causes this, it smells like diesel too.
First pick it just after ignition and the next is under a bit of acceleration.

No. Just change one to start with.

If it was me, I would change the furtherest one out. Ie 700. But don’t take my word. Do some reading on here

If you're not consuming oil it's possible that No'3 injector is failing, especially if the exhaust smoke is white. (but not condensation!!!)

Blue smoke is oil, which is why I asked about the level. If the turbo seals were leaking oil into the charge side, the intercooler will build up with oil which is then forced into the cylinders causing blue smoke.
A quick pop off of the intercooler hose on the passenger side will confirm this, but if you're not using oil it's unlikely, and a new injector might be necessary once all other possibilities are exhausted.

what fuel are you using budget/premium ? and how long does it crank when starting first thing and are you doing a lot of starts and not getting up to temp as mine does not like a lot of starts to just say move it on the drive or a very short journey my wife is banned from starting hers unless she is going further than a five minute walk

p/s try not to rev a lot/at all when first started as your just throwing more fuel in you should start it with no throttle just turn the key
