Cold morning. Difficult start.
Hello all,
I am Dan, I'm the owner of a Discovery 3, 2006 made, 2.7 tdv6 engine.
With the arrival of the low temperatures, some kind of problems started with the car, with starting it in the cold mornings, after this hard start, the engine goes without any problem and starts every time after the first key.
The first thought was that they are the glow plugs and because of them the start is difficult, I read and understood the risks of their replacement, that there is the possibility of snapping and after that.. unconscious I went to work.
After 3 hours of work, 3 glow plugs snapped in the engine and it was necessary to extract them
Finally they were extracted from the engine and new ones fitted in their place.
It remained 1 only unchanged due to its difficult positioning. Now it works 5 out of 6, yesterday morning excited by what happened, outside being -2 degrees, turned the ignition on waited for the glow sign to turn off, waited even more (about 30 seconds) and I tried to start, the engine starts after 5 -6 empty spins, throwing a lot of smoke after starting.
Now my question would be what should I check further in order to make the start more optimal in the cold mornings? Should I check what current the glow plugs use to make sure it works optimally?
After these heavy starts, FBH doesn't even starts in the morning, I`m thinking that it should be somehow locked or it was blocked, with an error or something..
However ... what could it be?

May seem like a dumb question, how do i do that?
Managed to discover how.. all i need is a good tool for diagnostic and a wise man to use it

you need a diag tool and read live data on your injectors , you will probably find at least 2 are out of spec with the rest , I believe healthy ones should be between 800 - 1000 at idle , search injectors on here , lots of info on working with them pal

I managed to read the data of the injectors, the values of all are between 900 and 1100-1200. From what I have browsed here on the forum the normal values are somewhere between 700-1300. Those with values below 600 and over 1400 will register a DTC error. The pressure in the injector ramp is also normal.. Which would be the next step to check?

Recently fitted a Traxide dual charge and auxillary Optima battery to my D3 and all problematic cold starts have gone.
Could this additional power from this set up aid the glow plugs?
It was struggling at +2 and recently fired up at -2 no problem. I have done 54000 miles since 2016 and have no record of any glow plug changes.
It must be a factor I guess?

Hello everyone. Need some advise.
I recently got an overhaul done on my discovery 3 2.7.
The engine started off well however the car lacked power so was told there is an issue with the nozzles/injectors and got em tested to find one had a back leak. Replaced one with a used one and the car was fine but then unrelated skipped timing during a test drive. Got the belt and tensioner replaced.
Now i have an issue with hard start in the mornings. Sometimes it would start after a few tries and sometimes would have to disconnect injector 1 to get it started and let the engine warm up so that i can turn it off and reconnect injector 1 and restart the car but with white smoke all over until i hit the highway. After that the car starts off fine throughout the day.
Have this code pop up sometimes since the overhaul. P0336-66 Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor A circuit range/performance.
And during the hard start various codes start coming on and off like Cylinder 5 Contribution/Balance or Cylinder 6 etc.
My offset readings of the injectors are below and need clarity on what readings are normal.
Should i go ahead with replacing the injectors 1,2 and 5 or should i look at the CKP first? Can the injectors cause the CKP fault?

I would check the timing of the cambelt.
Are you sure injector 1 isn't leaking?

Nope no leak on injector 1. But i did get a code once during the hard start for injector 2 leaking with the CKP fault but no visible leak.
