Transfer case controller

Can one of you fine fellows tell me what if anything is different between the controller part no NNW51207 and 7H42 - 7H417- AC. Is it just the 7H42 supersedes the NNW.
More importantly should the NNW51207 work in my 08 D3 that has a kaput 7H42 fitted .

Many Thanks

Thanks very much, very useful site!
Don't know what the 7H42 number is all about because I found a TCCM with that number on it in a land rover box maked with the NNW512070 number.

I think you mean NNW512070 (you were missing the last digit). This is a regular Land Rover part number for us mortals. Laughing

The other one should really be grouped into three character groups:

[four characters]-[five characters]-[two characters]

First group: The first character indicates the model year, 7 means MY07 (5 = MY05, etc.), the three following characters indicate department (and something else, IDK)

Second group: this is the engineering callout number which can be seen on some drawings

Third group: version or revision (AA, AB, AC, BC, etc.)

The NNW part can be found here https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/n...ntrol.html, note the text “This is part 7E453 on the illustration.”, this is the callout you can see on the image above. On the other hand there isn’t a mention of the part having been superseded which tends to show up if it had been.

I don’t have access to microcat or similar that (I guess) would allow to lookup parts based on callout and then compare it to other parts. For example, I can’t explain why you have another callout for the same part. Perhaps it is for a different model or type of vehicle.

if you goto the link in the above post.

scroll down the page to the bottom and click disco3
click transfer case
click transfer case again

click some + on the right, next to module

NNW512070 is a later part, suitable for cars upto VIN6A999999

and as you go down and click more ++

is also suitablefor VIN8A469275 FROM VIN7A000001

and infact all VINs Rolling with laughter Thumbs Up

It was only factory fitted from VIN8A469276

So yes, it should work. It may however need calibration and or programming.

I think you need to drive forwards and backwards at a lowish speed to calibrate it or something.

Search for transfer box calibration on here

Yeah one has to be quite the part archeologist to figure these out sometimes…… Laughing

I think backwards compatibility is for JLR’s benefit, they do not need to keep a million variants around but can fit the newest part to the oldest vehicle for quite some time.
