Engine suddenly died. Mechanics say valve stuck need new eng

Hey guys. Need your help BADLY.

Discovery 4 3,0 HSE 2014

My wife was driving to our countryside, and was stuck in trafick. After traffic she went onand suddenly the car gave the following problems.

1. Sound like rubber flubing. Not sound of mechanical metal sound.
2. Loss of power and steering power.
3. Engine died after stoping. But was like engine breaking before.
4. Electricity would not turn of when pushing Start/Stop button. Only after exiting the car with door open.
5. Trying to start, and it just clicked like a relay activating/deactivating.
6. Charging did nothing to even crank over the engine.
7. Handbrake could not be released. Absolutely no sound like it was trying.
8. In the end it did not even recognize the Key FOB.

There was NO warnings NO lamps came up NOTHING.

Now the thing is that we delivered the car to a repairshop, and after 20 minuttes they claim that it is a valve stuck and it needs a new engine.
They made this diagnos in like 10 - 15 minuttes. I mean the handbrake was stuck, so alone to release that and get it in to the shop would take some time.

To me it sound not at ALL like a valve stuck, but more that the battery is old and that the Alternator failed or belt failed.
Well something electrical have gone to the toilet on it.

I really could URGENTLY need an advice on this thing, cause I am afraid that I am about to be cheated here.
IF it is a stuck valve, is it really not possible to fix that instead of changing engine. I mean another engine starts at around 5000 Euroes and up.

Please guys I am totally NOOOOOOOOO Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Have to agree, the chance of them identifying a stuck valve Question after such a cursory inspection is unlikely, certainly wouldn't want to budget for a new engine on such a dubious diagnosis.

It needs looking at by someone who knows what they are doing.
A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

I agree on this one. It seem a little fast to diagnose this.

What do you think about the symptoms.

If you lost power steering, and electrical power, and heard the sound of rubber flapping, have you looked to see if the ancillary drive belt is still intact and tensioned ? Has the battery completely died, due to no alternator drive or alternator failure ? I would be checking these, long before going anywhere near even thinking about condemning the engine. But if the vehicle was driven for a while with no drive belt, there is a possibility, (and this fills me with dread BTW when you mentioned the engine braking before it stopped Shocked ) that with no ancillary belt driving the water pump, could the engine have overheated, and started to seize and then fully seize (probably a worst case scenario) ? I think I would be inclined to get the vehicle out of the hands of these con merchants, and their dodgy 20 min diagnosis ASAP, unless they can give you some hard and fast facts about what has actually happened ie. Could a ‘seized engine’ be described as a ‘stuck valve’ in Lithuania ? I don’t know. But if it has seized, then unfortunately it will need to be replaced.
Incidentally, I have never heard of these engines just developing ‘ a stuck valve,’ ….as in combustion chamber valves. A stuck EGR valve yes, but this is nothing to do with your vehicle symptoms, and certainly would not require engine replacement.

Naaa, you cant a seized engine cant be mistaken as a stuck valve in Lithuania.

I know that my wife is good at keeping an eye on the temp, and I have asked her about this and she is very sure that it did not overheat.

Does the Disco 4 Have some kind of security meassure like a sensor that will shut down the engine if it is low on oil.

I know some cars have so

DAMN IT, it sound like that my wife never checked the oil level. Probably they meant that a rod has seized. That means probably a spun bearing and a goodbye engine I think

But you’d think the low level warning light would have come on before anything catastrophic would have happened.
