2012 DRL's VPLAV0066

I've been looking at fitting the DRL Kit (Part No. VPLAV0066). I have the instruction manual which isn't the greatest and I've been studying it along with the workshop manual.

I would like to have them stay on (dim preferably) when the side lights are switched on.

The fitting of the lights are confusing in the instructions but how hard can it be Shocked

Any info on if it would be possible to have the lights dim would be great, if it just a case of wiring them up differently that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

I have the same lights on mine since new. They stay on when the side or headlights are on. I didn't do the original installation so I couldn't say if this is the standard function.

Hmmm. That's odd the brochure even describes that they should dim?

Hi Chobby, just ran outside and checked and here's the sequence with the engine running.
Lights switch off = DRL's on (bright)
Lights switch on side lights only = DRL's on (bright)
Lights switch on main beam = DRL's on (dim)
I hope this helps.

That's very interesting, thanks, that's exactly what I was hoping to achieve. Are these the Genuine LR Accessories?

The kit is very expensive and I'm looking to Get some answers before splashing the cash.

I believe they are an OEM option. If you want cheaper DRL though have a look at something like the combined fog / DRL from Osram that some from here have fitted.

As Del said, or if you don't have a iidtool, then simply turn your side lights on.

Chobby, yes they're the LR installation. DRL's have been mandatory in Switzerland on all cars manufactured after Jan 2014. This was known back in Jun 2012, so when the car was ordered it was decided to have them installed as part of the build specification.

Thanks very much for that guys. Yes i know they are the oem ones and theres cheaper available but i want to keep ot as oeiginal as possible plus i like the partucular style.

Ronch sounds like its possible clearly. Will have to have a look at the wirong diagrams if i can find one.

I looked with my last one, they are easy enough to install but believe they need IID tool to enable so I didn't install them

The instructions don't say anything about needing any software changes but I can do that if it is required.

Just confused because Ronch describes his as always on but dims when the dip beam headlights are turned on and yet the manual suggests that they will go off as soon as sidelights are switched on??

Not beyond belief that LR have changed the spec since they were installed to mine in 2012. I also agree the accessory catalog does say they turn off when the headlamps are on, but mine don't, and they operate the same when the lights are selected to auto as well.
Sequence of pictures is: 1 Ign Off, 2 Ign On, 3 Ign On Side Lights On, 4 Ign On Head Lights On, 5 Close Up. You can see the dim circuit kick in when the headlights are on. The close-up shows that the installation on mine looks as though it grew there. I had no luck with the wiring diagram you were after. Maybe someone will be along who is better resourced than me.

Thanks for the pictures. I can see they're not the same as the ones in the brochure as you have 5 leds each side. Typical land rover. Maybe it's a different kit for a different market.

I'll try and find the kit you have and a part no. If possible.

They do look smart though

Thanks for all your help.

Just found an alternative Part No. for VPLAV0066

Alternative Part No. CH2M-14293-AA

I have been unable to find a picture associated with that part no.

Am I right in saying the type that Ronch has fitted are the Vestatec ones?

I have never heard of these and again can't find picture of these Vestatec modules.
