Change battery in key fob

Hi Folks
The car failed to open this morning and decided to open the key fob to determine what battery is required and order a replacement.
Did not expect to find a rechargeable Li-ion soldered onto a circuit board. Any explanations please?

It charges when in the ignition.

Hi Boys thanks for the replies, did not realise it charges when in the ignition. The last I changed a battery was for 2001 VW Passat and it was a straight forward battery.

Sorry don't get the electric toothbrush fix? In any case the battery requires to be changed as it does not hold a charge. Can the forum recommend or has experience of a repair for the key fob please?

If it has not charged in the car you can sometimes recharge them by propping a key on the side of a oral-b type charging base for several hours. It's free so worth trying 1st.

Both the key and an electric toothbrush are inductively charged. It does work, I rejuvinated a key that hadn't been used for some time (could have been years) and it worked fine thereafter. I then tried to avoid always using the same key. A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an MG5 EV

Change battery in key fob

Hi Thanks for your reply, did not realise it was induction charging, every day is a school day.

Found a company on Ebay based in Peterborough that offers a repair service as the battery is not maintaining a charge. It is £25 and offers a return service within a week, seems like the best solution.

I would recommend this seller on Ebay remoterepairscentre sent on Friday, repaired and returned on the Tuesday of the following week. New case and working.
