Drivers window, glass broken in situ!

So, was at work, went back to the car to grab a drink. Drivers window was shattered, still completely in place and still crackling.
It looks like it broke from the glass mount / fixing nearest the handle inside the door because all the spiders web looking lines radiating out seemed to come from there!
The lines didn’t meet at one point above the seal / squeegee bit, seemed they would meet an inch or two below that.
Has this happened to anyone else???

What do you guys think??
To me it looks like the grey area around the edge of the glass is consistent with what I’d expect to see from metal that’s rubbed on glass.
Also, is there or should there be a rubber spacer or grommet between the plastic washer and the glass??

Not happened to me before but from what you show and say, I think your deduction is likely so.

Why are you asking may I enquire?

So you can rectify with new glass and avoid the same issue happening? To apportion potential blame to a recent repair/replacement?

Curious...

Just curious about a few things really, wondering if this is a common thing, a new thing, if there’s parts missing or a way to never have it happen again.

Did your door maybe slam shut in strong wind when you parked the car - and you didn't happen to look back towards the car at that time ?
Never heard of this kind of glass failure happening.

Something just doesn't seem right to me!-I've had the glass out several times when fitting lock actuators and the glass just drops and clicks into place onto two white plastic carrier clips.
Easy job to remove the lift mechanism by removing the door card and checking and removing the broken glass while you're in there. Thumbs Up

When I used to work on ATM we had a spate of broken vandal proof display screens and sure enough any that had cctv coverage we could see people getting a little peeved.

The trouble was most were hit with a fist which should not be able to break one. On a call out closer inspection showed the crack started on the INNER surface near an edge. It turned out to be the clamps that held the screen from the back not being properly cleaned leaving grit under it.

The point is it not always obvious where a crack starts from.

Unlike being in a branch refit when £20000 shotgun proof bandit glass was being fitted. As the fitter was clamping it there was loud Censored ! as a crack slowly meandered across the glass from where he was working. 😁

I collected and fitted the replacement yesterday with no trouble. Really impressed with that white clip design.
The “new” window didn’t have them so had to use the old ones.
