EPB / PBM operation logic

Hi

Been reading the D4 workshop manual Cool to understand the functioning of EPB and the PBM while the vehicle is stationary

I get that when the EPB is selected ON, the PBM motor drives the Spline Shaft until the Force Sensor detects sufficient tension in the brake cables, and then stops the motor

(and I guess that if an abnormally high current or abnormally long motoring time is detected before sufficient tension is reached, the PBM throws a fault)

But I can't find any explanation about PBM action when the EPB is selected OFF:

How does the PBM decide when to stop the motor? Is it:
* tension in brake cables (from Force Sensor) drops to a certain level?
* motor runs for set time?
* motor runs for set number of turns?
* something else?

and similarly, how does PBM decide if there is a fault when EPB is selected OFF? e.g. Tension in brake cables doesn't reduce after set time? Abnormally high current? Something else?
