Cat N Discovery 3 HSE purchase

As per the title, I've found a Discovery 3 HSE that's Cat N. The seller was unaware that it was a Cat N and as was the owner before him, I found out while doing an online car check. My question is, is there anyone on here with a Cat N that can advise if it's worth a punt?

I've done an insurance check and the prices don't seem to be higher... is the Cat N status something that I declare once I've chosen the quote I want to go with? Any and all advice is welcome, cheers.

Cat N being non structural could be anything from panel damage to paint stripper damage, normally the HPi report says repairable but insurer decided not to.
On that basis it would seem the car has been repaired and recent buyer’s unaware, so if everything else has been serviced and looked after it may be a decent buy, however if it’s not been repaired to manufacturers standards then for piece of mind an inspection would be in order.
Last month HPi would accept an Autolign inspection and would remove the cat N and place it on the condition inspected register, now the vehicle will have the Cat for life. [email protected] are another vehicle inspection company.
Money value will always be a little less than a non Cat vehicle but I’ve always maintained a vehicle is only worth what someone is willing to pay for a lump of metal, what you accept as a seller is what your comfortable with.
Insurance doesn’t fluctuate much as it’s supposed to be risk based.

Martin

How much is it relative to, say, a non-cat N vehicle? As above you should be fine if it was repaired properly, but it'll need to be declared etc.

There's a nice one here for you that is most certainly not a write-off...

Mine is Cat. N which I knew prior to purchase and the selling price reflected that. (stolen recovered)
That being said, there are absolutely no issues with it other than having only 1 working key. (a thieves key, not the original). I only found that bit out after I tried to get one re-coded.
