Rear brake issue
Hello chaps.
Can anyone shed any light on this brake issue.
Noticed a bit of a hotter than it should be rear drivers side rear brakes.
Jacked up the car and check and it seems the handbrake was binding a bit and I thought maybe the caliper slider pins were a bit sticky.
So I took off the calliper, cleaned everything up, cleaned up the slider pins. I then wound up the handbrake knurl (handbrake off) until I couldn’t move it any further (wheel was locked on even with handbrake off) then backed it off 8 clicks. The wheel moved ok ish, but it wasn’t super easy. I didn’t adjust the little Allen key as I didn’t think you needed to for just an adjustment.
Put everything back together and went for a short slow ish drive, not really using the brakes much. After 5 mins, I pulled over to check and the area and it was hot, disk face was hot, and so was the handbrake drum. Other side was stone cold.
I’m a bit confused what’s going on. Both rear callipers were replaced by the garage about 6 months to a year ago, and the piston pushed back in easily when I took the calliper off.
Should I possibly need to back the handbrake off more than 8 clicks? I didn’t want to go too much and end up with a squealing EPB module. I also don’t know why the disk face felt hot, unless the heat was radiating up, but I’m not convinced. Any advice welcomed thanks.

The handbrake shoes are inside the rear drum, it sound like they need servicing/replaced/adjusted.

Change the flexy hose at the back. Not the one on the caliper the short one where the body meets the arm.
Mine had brokendown inside so it was like a one way valve
Looked fin on the outside though

Left the handbrake off last night. Took it for a drive this afternoon and all normal, disk faces were equal all around, and the handbrake drum was cold. After about 15 mins, all good.
Applied the handbrake just before home, then disengaged and by the time I got home, around 1 minute, the drum was warm and I think I could hear it dragging. So, seems to confirm park brake issue.
I’ve jacked it up again and reset to 12 clicks from locked and it seems to be working ok. I think i will need to drop it down and try again.
Is 12 clicks ok? I’ve seen 8 - 12 click range by DiscoMikey in his guide? Is there anyway to tell with an IID how far away the EPB module is from a meltdown?
Edit: is anyone able to confirm if you need to release the small Allen key for just an adjustment? The guide suggests not, but it isn’t clear. Thanks

The brake guide gives very good instructions about setting the handbrake shoes.
This is really important to avoid any unnecessary EPB issues.
Ideally a torque wrench is needed to set the shoes while turning the drum/disc FORWARD only at a pre determined torque setting.
Then can the wheel be clicked back to 8 clicks, AND the Allen bolt needs releasing while the the drum is tapped with a rubber mallet to allow self adjustment of a wedge. Allen bolt is then locked up.
Constant loosening of the adjustment wheel click setting to try and remedy your problem may well come and bite you.
Each drum/disc needs removing, investigating, and setting properly.

On the back of the handbrake shoes, there is a lever which can seize. You won't know unless you actually remove the shoes. For me, this gave the same symptoms you describe Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
