Can't find thread on leaking exhaust gases |
|
I have been searching for about half an hour, but can't find the article I'm looking for.
It was about exhaust gases leaking from the pipe between the (I think) exhaust manifold and the EGR vlve failing. I seem to remember a comment about smelling exhaust fumes in the cab, a picture of the offending pipe (possibly a thin wall convoluted one) with a couple of small holes in it and something about a hissing noise under accelleration.
There was also a couple of part numbers suggested and that they were out of stock and on back order with no date for when they would be available.
Can anyone help me track the article down please?
Thanks,

Hi OP
Curious to know what was the root cause in your case? is your car in limp mode by any chance?
thanks

Drops into limp mode when going up reaonable steep hills. Smell of exhaust fumes in engine compartment when stationary. Possibly hissing noise when under load.
IID tool resets limp mode straight away. There are two rules for success,

ah okay.. mine is in limp mode (checked and no vacuum leaks), but deffo a mild smell of diesel in the cabin (it's been like that since I bought it 6 months ago). I don't have a hissing, but I do have like a howling/whistling noise every time I take my foot off the accelerator.
Wondering if it could be the same root cause.

Diesel or exhaust smell?
It's possibly the same, but inlikely as the noise from mine stops when you take your foot off the accelerator. There are two rules for success,

I had the exhaust smell with engine running stood still.
I diagnosed the crossover pipe due to the soot marks around it. Turned out the EGR pipes were also leaking. Body off, all replaced and no more smell.

That's my thinking as well. There are two rules for success,

To be fair not sure what the difference is between the exhaust smell and the smell of diesel? I would say probably more an exhaust kind of smell?
It's the fact that I have this whistling/howling noise that is more than likely correlated to the car being in limp mode.. searched loads on the forum and online.
With the smoke test not having revealed anything, I am now even more stumped!
unless one of the exhaust pipes is leaking? need a ramp!

I meant the smell of unburnt diesel or diesel exhaust. There are two rules for success,
1. Never tell everything you know.
