3ltr straight 6

I love my d4 v6 3ltr but I have just had the new defender straight 6 and was well impressed with its towing capabilities, so I am thinking if my D4 engine fails what are the possibilities of fitting the new straight 6 engine, food for thought was wondering if anyone had looked into it

From what I am told from a very reliable source you might be better thinking the opposite as they have the same problem as the engine's that are fitted in the Discovery Sport and Evoque.
Must say I like how quite and smooth they are, even quiter than some electric offerings.

It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I thought it was only the 2ltr engine that had the problems and the straight 6 was a good engine, I am over the moon with my V6 3ltr at ten years old and just over a hundred thousand miles, I am getting the stone chips sorted and some preventative maintenance and thinking of keeping her as long as possible

Disco_Mikey would be the person to ask. He, no doubt, would also be able to tell you if those engines are any good or not…… Laughing

The I6 in the Discovery 5 and Defender is a mild hybrid with a 48V battery system. That might make fitting it in a D4 rather more complicated.

My informant who runs a LR indipendant says they are getting the same problems with the 3ltr as the 2ltr, although LR claim they have now solved the problem Laughing as Disco-Mikey says “it’s still early days!”

Just yesterday I was chatting with my mate who works at Landranger in Stockport. He was telling me he has seen zero issues with the 6 cylinder Ingenium engines, but lots of issues with I4 version. He puts it down to poor installation, with dpf regeneration causing oil problems. Also, he told me the I6 doesn’t have a balance shaft like the I4, on which it is a common failure.

He still told me to change the oil more regularly than LR recommend though!

Could it be one of the reasons why JLR have dropped the P400 from the Defender lineup for MY25, and replaced it with the P525 (AJV8)?

Aside from other potential problems, I would guess that the I6 would be longer in length than the V6 and 3.6 V8. The costs involved to make it fit and work would I fear make it an impractical option.

I’d love to see you do it though ! Could be possible because the D5 had TDV6 originally and now has I6.

I am thinking of looking for a D4 with a blow engine if it is possible and going down the route Disco Mike went expensive but unless I go down the crew cab van route I can’t think of another vehicle that will give me the room I need,
