D3 Key fob charging
So came across a video with regards to key fob charging and thinking of buying one to see if it works
Know the trick of using a wireless toothbrush holder but wondering if anyone else may have tried these watch base chargers plse , including an Apple Watch base
If not will report back as my spare key fob is dead , suppose though there’s no way to see if it’s charges it fully ?
Wished to at least share the link and video in case it’s useful to anyone

Is the battery in your fob a rechargeable battery? Mine isn’t.2015 LR4 HSE Lux Aintree Green

Apologises as should have stated it’s for a D3 , I think the D4’s battery can be replaced whereas mine is a rechargeable battery that’s soldered in

When I bought my D3 it came with 2 keys, one useable but the other had no pads left in the case and probably hadn't been used for some time.
I replaced the case but the car was unresponsive to the buttons.
I left it for a couple of days on an Oral-B base then swapped to a different orientation for another day.
After that it would unlock the car so swapped over the blade and the car would then start. It continued to work until I swapped the car
So yes, leaving it on a toothbrush charging base does work.A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

Essentially they need an ac driven magnetic field, within certain limits it shouldn't matter too much the source as the charging circuit in the device will only take the power it can handle so any small charging station should work with one caveat.
The simple circuits in the brush just react to the magnetic field present. The more complex devices may feed back a signal to control the ac fields so devices such as a QI phone charger probably wouldn't work. The Qi (chee) standard incorporates a handshaking process and foreign object detection to protect against inductive heating. There is a possibility with a proprietry charger that it would treat a key as foreign and turn off.A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

Well I didn’t know you could handshake with QI
Back to the subject. You can of course charge it by putting it in the ignition barrel

Neither did I until I saw the light on my bedside charger flashing like a disco. The the one I use on my desk has different power levels depending on the device but I think the handshaking is nothing like complex digital systems interacting where we use the term normally.A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV.
