Hi Stu,
After what seemed like days of reading threads on here, I took a brave pill and pulled out the centre console area and then the bit of the dash where the cabin temp sensor thermistor is, hoovered out the fluff and crudd, blew through the tube behind, then I lagged the entire piece to prevent dissipating heat from the vent tubes behind the dash causing higher than actual readings on the thermistor sensor.
The put it all back together. Then got a Fast Lane update from GAP to upload as my car was missing an update which can be resolved on some cars. Seems to have worked on mine.1998 Defender 110 TUM HS FFR Hard Top XD WOLF
