D4 seven year service: what else?

My fairly-new-to me 2016 D4 SDV6 is booked in next week to get the cam belts done. The vehicle has travelled 75000mls. While they’re at it I’m going to get the water pump and coolant changed, as well as transmission flush. What other things should I get the (independent) garage to inspect or replace as a preventative measure, whilst not going overboard on the budget?

Get them to check the rear brake pipes. Mine is of the similar age and they are corroded where they are clipped to the body. Most noticeable are the ones just inboard of the wheel arch, above and parallel to the rear halfshafts although there are other clips around the diff that can have the problem.

LR do some pre made repair pipes but as there is no join the original pipes have to cut and flare ends made to connect to. The location of the join is not that easy to get at so some make their own to match the originals but cut to form a join behind the exhaust heat shield further forward.

Then as the system would have to be bled anyway get a full replacement of the brake fluid clean out to all 4 brakes. Obviously check and replace pads as needed but at that mileage the rotors should be within spec.

I'd maybe have the compressor serviced too..

Right oh. The place I go to is very good with all things LR; they looked after my old Disco 3, and they’ve said that they’ll give it a thorough once-over / health check, so no doubt they’ll look at brake lines if they’re a known potential issue? I’m not sure whether they are in favour of ‘servicing’ a compressor, as when my last one was playing up they replaced it with a used one rather than attempt to fix it?

Hi

Being a 2016 I wonder if it would be worth them checking the adblue along with the sensor to ensure its not blocked up

Hope that’s also useful

Probably autocorrect…. I think gstuart meant Adblue (DEF) system and its sensor.

Ah that makes sense. None of that Adblue nonsense in this one to worry about 😉.

Always an owners call on what they do or don't do. Have a look via 'search' on here about compressor servicing...

Good luck with continued ownership and enjoy!

Thumbs Up

Rather than start another thread I thought I'd piggy back off this one if that's OK Cresco Smile

I'm in for the 10 year service in June (although only 56k miles). I'm still traumatised by the cost (c2300 quid including a transmission mega flush). details below but can anyone think of anything else I should get done at the same time.

Brakes, front bushes, tyres etc done last year. Rear bushes were OK for a bit longer but I understand they're a pain to replace and it end up being an expensive job.

I'm hoping from here on in I drop back to simple oil/filer etc services for the next few years.

Any suggestions on anything else to check (MY2014 Disco 4 SDV6 HSE)?

You’re more than welcome to hop in on the thread, Skully!

I picked my D4 up from the garage a few days ago, following its big service. I will admit that my coffee did come out my nose when I was handed the final bill, but had to remind myself (and my wife when I got home!), that I effectively knocked the cost of the service off the sellers asking price when I bought the vehicle a couple of months ago. Hopefully that will be the last real major for some time (fingers crossed)?

In summary, they did the following:

- Timing belts, front and rear, as well as tensioners and idler.
- Water pump, water manifold (the plastic thingy that can split). Replaced with alloy one. Top hose. Coolant.
- Transmission flush and filter (which with the 8-speed ZF means new sump, as the filter is incorporated in the sump itself). *My mechanical warranty policy required filter replacement.
- Engine oil / filter, diesel filter, air filter.

Eighteen hours labour.

I asked them to consider replacing the accessory drive belt as well, but they advised that it was not necessary.

Vehicle has full dealer service history, so things like transfer case oil etc not required at this stage.

Cheers
