Battery relay? Next to start stop battery MY16
Hi all,
I have been having intermittent battery voltage issues as you may have seen from my other posts. I was looking today for the grommet location in the driver's side to get into the cabin. I noticed that the battery relay? Near the second aux battery had a wire with some dark banding on it. Bit odd I thought and on closer inspection, the plastic bolt head was deformed and melted! Looks like the terminal has been loose for some time. Checking the rest, they were all loose!
I went to tighten them up, 2 did tighten, but the melted one just spun above the metal clamping section of the bolt.
Does anyone have a part number for the bolts please?

The PSDB (Power Supply Distribution Box) is essentially the split charge relay. The retaining bolts are not available as a seperate part from Land Rover and the PSDB is over £1000 from LR (eBay is your friend) unfortunately at least one on eBay has no nuts fitted.
However looking at the photo I suspect the cause of the melting may be the eyelet crimp on the top stud is making a poor contact and heating up under load. This would need to be fixed as wellA visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

I did a quick search and I think I did find that relay before I posted!
Yes that one especially was loose when I found it. Is there anything special about them? What would be stopping me replacing them with a standard nut and putting a rubber cap over it for isolation?
I'll see if I can get a better photo of the damage to the nut tomorrow, my only concern is getting it off as the cap has disconnected itself from the nut!2016 Discovery 4 HSE

It should possible to cut the plastic shell off the nut. It is a standard thread so a nut will fit, you may find the one in the plastic is a spline rather than hex.
The nut itself may even be tight, my concern from the photo is the eyelet crimp connection to the cable. I know of a number of examples with poor crimps on engine earth so there is no specific reason why it wouldn't also be an issue with a battery cable.A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. The terminal was loose when I found it so I think the heating and subsequent discolouration of the eyelet and melting of the nut were all part of the high resistance joint.
I'll check out the cable tomorrow, if I need to re-crimp it I have got all the kit for it. I may ask any local breakers if they have got any nuts on any they have, and might as well get a battery cable while I'm at it.2016 Discovery 4 HSE
