Stereo stuck in "Phone Mode" - fixed
54 Plate D3 HSE, with no phone kit fitted that i know of (i.e. No phone buttons on steering wheel). I have not physically checked for a bluetooth module....
I have tried a hard reset (10mins+), pulling fuse 52/53, checked the alternator (seen between 13.9<->15 via IID Tool), battery seems ok and the car's not been near any water.
I have seen a few post mentioning it fixing itself! Any suggestions of next thing to look at, other that just waiting for it to fix itself
Cheers

Can you not use your iid to check if phone kit is fitted. Might have been fitted at some stage. If so you may be able to disable it in the ccf menu ?

No phone kit then
There is a pin on the smaller connector on the back of the radio ( think its pin 10 ) that when goes to earth it will bring up the "phone mode ".
Could have an internal fault with the radioG4 Gone ...but not forgotten
Mine has come back & has not gone away this time. I still think that a low-ish voltage may be a contributory factor seeing as the 2 times it has occurred was when the car was being looked at by a mechanic - first time for a stuck key in the ignition & most recently when in for EGR valves at a LR dealer.
I'm thinking door left open for a long period causing battery drain that is not getting topped up enough on local runs?
13.7V at the battery with engine running is a little low IMHO - I would like to see 14.4V
Will look at Pin 10 also Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Thanks Wiggs, I will have a look at that next.
No worries piecost76, nice to share the problems about. I did initially think alternator, it could be on it's way out (regulator?) as seen a good range of voltages when driving. I had charged the battery externally to make sure the battery was fully charged.54 D3 TDV6 AUTO HSE - Oct13 > Present

I'd go with a hard reset, followed by a full charge of the battery. Mods:

Sure I've read somewhere that one poster had same problem and his phone button, on the front of the headunit, was stuck in and was forcing the unit to stay in phone mode.
Check that too. Mods:

After an afternoon in the sun, this is what I have found so far....
Radio Secret Menu
I found a video on youtube explaining it. With radio freq displayed basically press and hold the enter button until info on the screen. Then press and hold again for more info. Doesn't seem to work with "Phone Mode" on screen.
Phone Button
I have check but looks like it is moving ok and not stuck in.
Hard Reset
Done this a few times now, still seems to makes no difference to radio.
Integrated Head Unit
I got to the back of the unit (VUX500320 - 6CD-465) and found the two connectors. I found the pinout table for them. However I am not 100% I have the right one as it doesn't match on the smaller connector....? I could not see anything obvious/lose/rubbed through. I even tried leaving the small connector off and powered up, still the same message!

Alternator/Battery
I am heading back to the alternator, after putting everything back together, charging up the battery externally, I was still getting 13.9 and up. While running, I did try turning on the heated seats/lights/aircron and anything else I could find but the voltage didn't drop.54 D3 TDV6 AUTO HSE - Oct13 > Present

The small connector is correct
You don't have a wire in pin 10 as you don't have the aftermarket phone kit
I suspect it's shorted in the head unit its self somehowG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

I had this problem recently. Checked everything I could find. Even tried a software update.
Eventually pulled the radio out and found a trickle of water damage marks on the upper side and some corroded components below through the grille. I suspect a Valet service was careless....
