I have been struggling with a failing battery for the last few months, and putting the D4 on charge overnight at least once a week - I'll say no more about this topic here though.
My problem is, whether because of my old age, or less likely the D4's, I struggle to replace the battery cover every time I remove it.
I am inclined not to refit. I can see there is a chance of the battery getting wet if I charge through a ford, any other possible problems?
SWMO suggested covering it in cling film but I don't think that's a good idea.
Any other suggestions?
TIA Nigel

Happy to hear we have the same challenges.
But firstly, change your battery. Is saving money now worth the aggravation of being stuck somewhere at the most inopportune of times??
Secondly, with plenty of light, put the rear part of the cover in place, then rotate the front down, ensuring you line up all the tabs. Then the final light “bump” with your palm to set the tabs.
Of course, mine is now cracked (not be me!) due to the lack of patience and attention to detail, by others.
And I’m just going to ignore the suggestion about any other cover options.

Plus 1 with regards to the battery replacement
I find the weather strip that goes along the back is where u need to hook the battery cover under to then as suggested push down for the clips to engage , of course not wishing to try and teach u how to suck eggs , ref the left hand back corner I did use a dremel and trimmed a little bit off
If you are using a c-tec charger you can buy a short lead that you bolt on to the terminals and then plug the charger into a socket without removing the cover every time.A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

As above but buy a slightly longer lead and cable tie it to the grille so you can plug in every time without even opening the bonnet I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

I assume you mean LH when standing in front of the car looking back - i.e. the corner nearer the centre of the engine bay?
Mine too is now cracked due to the lack of patience and attention to detail.
Apologises , yes as u look at the engine , indeed can be a right faff sometimes trying to get it back on but the dremel did help reduce the amount of plastic that had to go under the rubber trim helped the cover to go on easier
Come to think of it I think I trimmed both corners on the RH battery cover

Hi mate
Seen a good few members that have done that by attaching the connector to the grill , personally use my 12s socket to charge mine

And I have no need for aux charging, as my battery’s capacity is within 90% of spec.2015 LR4 HSE Lux Aintree Green
