Recommended IID Tool

Can anyone recommend a half decent/cost effective IID reader and where to purchase? I presume if you are looking for one that's specific with codes for LR then it's of no use with other vehicles? TIA.

The GAP Tool is great, but expensive to buy new. Full functionality is locked to a specific VIN, but it will work to read and clear codes on other LR products. Frustratingly it won't read codes at all on non-LR vehicles, even Volvos produced at the same time under Ford control, with the same Ford components.
 Previously:
2010 FL2 TD4e GS
‘93 Defender 110 200TDi CSW - still got this, non-runner on SORN.
‘87 Defender 90 4 cyl Petrol
‘83 110 CSW V8 - best ever!
Range Rover 2-door V8 (not sure of year - 4-speed box and vacuum diff switch)
Series III SWB Diesel

As above Iid tool by GAP is the best, expensive but will soon pay for themselves and will not lose value, look out on here for a used one usually around £300+.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Does the GAP tool need to be setup specific to your VIN then? What happens if you end up buying a 2nd hand one in that case?

With that in mind - anyone got a 2nd hand one they are looking to sell? I presume they are easy enough to reprogram with new VIN?

You need to keep your eye on the foresale section!

There is a “small” fee to change the vin.
Have a look in the foresale section for previous sales

As much as i wanted the gap iid it was too much for my pocket so i went with the Autel Ap200. I got it here in France off theAmazon site and it is excellent. Even coded a key with it.

I also have the Autel AP200 which does all I want

It comes with 1 free key which is linked to one brand, not just one VIN. Bought for my previous D3 but still works now I have the D4
A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

Yeah there are lovers and haters of the ap200. But for £~60 …..
Go for the white one. Older models /stock are better
