Engine bay fans running in after engine switch off |
|
Evening all
Our new to us D4 .2014 SDV6 has started to let the engine bay fans run on after we stop the car
This is after using the heaters ,had it about 5 months but not used heater much until now
Is this normal , I can pug in to an Icarsoft it anyone thinks it would log a fault if there is actually a fault
I’ve had it back to the dealer for a very slight coolant leak from somewhere above the starter motor which they said was a clip,I though it was coming from the EGR as it had the inlet manifold done offside last may ,I wondered if they had disturbed the coolant pipe to the EGR
Can’t ember the D3 doing it
Thanks
Phil

Is it possibly the FBH as we've had a cold snap?

If it's cold they can run on a bit after you shut the engine down.

It will be the FBH and they will will be active below 7 degrees exterior temp . It keeps on running after engine shutdown to purge the system for several seconds especially after a short journey when engine hasnt achieved full temp . All very normal.

I thought the Disco had a mechanically-driven fan? I know it has some "clever" bits but didn't think it ran just on electrickery.
am I wrong ?

I am pretty sure the OP is describing the FBH fan that does run on after engine shut down to purge the FBH when its been operating.

Hope so but does sound quite load
Probably not cold enough here his weekend for FBH to kick in so if it happens today I will pop bonnet to see
Looks like the main fans shouldn’t run on
Fingers crossed 🤞

Update
I tried the remote for the timed climate as I had to get a new battery
Glad to say it works on first time of using
It’s the FBH after all I can hear running
Thanks all
I never remember this on our D3 though but that could be age

I wouldn’t worry, the FBH on ours seems to run on after while after a long journey, I suspect it’s probably to continue the flow of coolant to the engine even after shutting off as having the FBH pump running perhaps cools the engine down quicker?
