1st D3... 2007 Commercial

Hi folks, been lurking for 3 years after joining whilst looking for a D3 but ended up with another D2. That was written off whilst parked at the end of September so just bought a commercial having first looked at it about a month ago but held on hoping to look at others. It's got a good MOT history with a fresh one last week and I just wasn't getting to look at any decent ones easily and didn't fancy the high tax models. Had a good price for the cambelt change so need to book it in and it has had a recent EPB. Rims are a bit much bling for my liking and newish Falken Wildpeak tyres fitted.
Quick couple of question… the spare is in the back but will a 285/75/17 fit the spare wheel area… I am guessing not ??
I will be connecting up a 2nd battery not sure if it will be in the rear as I have a 105AH AGM and a Victron Orion 20amp dc-dc charger or if I will utilise the under bonnet location but will probably have to get a different battery. Anyone fitted a DC-DC charger under the bonnet and if so has it been OK with the additional heat?
Will have to find a home for the CB, thinking of making a sliding floor and buying one of the roof mount rear shelves.
Fingers crossed for reasonably trouble free motoring

No chance getting that size underneath, 265/65/17 will fit.

Looks good but is that number legal? I thought latest year to fit those was 2005?
Also, get some Xenon headlight units. The difference is well worth it. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

All 2.7 D3/4 and 4L V6 can fit 17's.

Hi, those were the sellers photos so blanked the private plate. Now on one of the silly Northern Ireland style plates starting JHZ and numbers

Yes, looks good!
But what sort of spacers are on there? Mine came with 30mm spacers which took the tyres out to almost outside of the arch and probably into illegal territory and I've since removed them. But these pics suggest that the tyres are well beyond the arch. Must be 35mm or 40mm spacers, surely? If you do nothing else, please check the torque on these spacers asap - there is often an inverse relationship between bling addition and engineering prowess!Previously:

Where could I find out if they are legal and on what grounds ? Anyone have info ? Could ask sellers I guess and just seen one pic on a supposedly 2009 car.

Have just read another thread from a few years ago on here but that refers mainly to A-Bars and also just found this on another forum..
1. The EU legislation distinguishes between a 'bumper' and a 'frontal protection system.' The latter is defined as a separate structure which, 'in addition to the original-equipment bumper is *intended* to protect the *external* surface of the vehicle from damage in the event of a collision.' This includes 'bull-bars' and 'A-bars,' for example.
2. The legislation bans manufacturers (and probably certain other parties) from 'distributing, offering for sale, or selling' such 'frontal protection systems' unless they have been EU-type approved. And, the rules are set up so that it is practically impossible to get such type approval.
3. However, there is nothing preventing someone from owning such a 'frontal protection system,' or installing it on his vehicle. The rules are aimed at manufactures and distributors, not end users. End users cannot be prosecuted.
4. Moreover, the rules don't apply to 'bumpers' and 'winch bumpers', so long as they are not 'intended to protect the external surface of the vehicle from damage in the event of a collision.' In some cases, this may be a bit of a grey area. But, the legislation does define a 'bumper' as 'intended to give protection to a vehicle when involved in a low speed frontal collision with another vehicle.'
So, in simple English, you will have a hard time finding a bull bar in Europe, as a lot of suppliers will be unwilling to sell it to you. However, there is nothing stopping you from installing one, if you happen to come into possession. Moreover, winch bumpers and winch mounts remain perfectly legal to sell and install. This was apparently confirmed in a Q&A by the Department of Transport.
