Tow Bar removal without the key

So this week, Boris my 2011 D4 is off to pastures new and I am hoping to have the tow bar removed, my local independant will do it for me but I dont have the small key for it (I actually think thats irrelevant as the tow Bar has been on 6 years and the lock is seized up!

Looking on the internet it seems its possible to have the lock drilled out and then replace, So Im assuming the costs are going to be the labour to remove, replacment lock, refitting to new D4 with a new set of bolts - does that sound about right and if so whats the approx cost of the new lock and also the bolts?

Picture of actual tow bar below:

Once the tow hitch is out you just need to get one of these.. takes around 30 minutes to fit

England

No drilling necessary so that shouldn’t be long.

Hi,

as above if its the removable swan neck towbar and someone says "Drill" look elsewhere

if you have always left it in place Rolling Eyes why not go for a fixed bar anyway, or remove it when not needed, it can not be nicked and from a maintenance point of view its better/safer removed.

last one I helped remove the key was broke in the lock and seized and it took a whole 2 minutes to get the bar off Laughing

Thumbs Up

^^ Because the OP has sold the car, doesn't need a new towbar.

I read it OP has swapped D4s and is moving the tow bar. But I have been known to be wrong occasionally. So SWMBO tells me at least.
