Side awning recommendations
Hi there thanks for the community! I'm currently looking to install a side awning on my SDV6 D4 with no roof rails. I've seen a few YouTube videos where people have installed a side awning without needing to install rails and roof rack.
Can't for the life of me find these online on anywhere!
Any recommendations would be really appreciated.Discovery 4

Hi, I've seen people mount an angle bracket to the roof rails using a channel nut. I personally used this to mount a roof rack, I used a galv steel plate and tapped a thread in to it to create a nut. Mine were about 80mm long with 2 or 3 holes tapped, others have done shorter lengths but I wanted to spread the load.
Hope that helps.Discovery 4 GS 2009 Auto Stornoway Grey

Hi,
my D3 has roof rails so attach using homemade 90 degree angled straps into the rails
however
used the same mountings on the FL2 we had and used the roof rail mounting holes as the securing points so the strap covered at least 2 of these, might be worth using the search button for D4 roof rail mounting points, used our awning over the rear not the side

Lovely setup! I was hoping to attach brackets on one side so that the side awning can be fixed straight on the roof with the roof bolts. The roof weight limit is 75kg but I wondered if it is safe to have just two fixing points for a side awning.Discovery 4

2 fixing points are fine for a 2m awning or less, recommendation is three for anything bigger. Why not get a set of roof rails to fit? Make life easier and pretty cheap off eBay / breakers2008 HSE Stornoway Grey
