New member - advice on D4 purchase please!
I have finally persuaded myself to buy a D4 (HSE) and my £10,000 budget is steering me to 2009-2012 high mileage models. I appreciate that Landrover Lottery syndrome applies here, but can anyone recommend a pre-purchase inspection service that might reduce the odds of buying a banger (Clickmechanic, AA, RAC, Warrantywise etc)? Thanks.

Higher mileage D4's will inevitably lead to higher maintenance costs and so my advice would be to wait and save for a newer lower mileage car.
These are not like your average car, they have a much greater number of particularly powertrain components and therefore require more maintenance. They are also extremely heavy which places stress/wear on those components.
If you do go for a 10k car there should be a large file of receipts and maintenance records. This is really important so don't ignore it.
No maintenance history walk away, get a LR specialist or someone with actual LR experience to look at the car if you can. Breakdown techs will not know the pitfalls of these cars, so perhaps a LR specialist is your best vendor and at least you will have warranty options there also.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

If you pop the words "pre purchase inspection' into the Search function (just below the D3 picture rhs wheel above) then you will find lots of information on previous posts.
Some may well help you.
I had a quick look to see if any were better than others to link but tbh there are so many you are probably best making a mug of tea and reading them.
Good luck with the purchase.
For what it is worth, a full maintenance record with a trusted independent (again, do your homework on here) will mean a better bet but no guarantee.Jim

I bought my D4 from Auction, and was listed with no service history available, but I could see the supplying dealers details on the number plate and they were kind enough to forward me a copy of the full service history that showed everything had been done inc belt changes! Saved me a fortune compared to what the car would have made if it had been sold with the full history!Must stop buying shiny toys....

Pre-purchase inspection D4
Thanks for the very helpful replies to my purchase question. There are quite a few D4's on offer with incomplete service records and no mention of replacement belts etc. I'll tread carefully.
