place a lump of wood or similar under the sill beside the flat whell
and let suspension down will it raise the wheel of the ground

Won't work it goes looking for the ground and goes into extended mode. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

OK I'll go back to proper tobacco - but if you select normal or access mode in that situation, does it just ignore the request?2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods

No it drops until the wheel lifts then it raises to extended mode.
Great way to trip it into extended mode though. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Great tip for wheel changing in difficult terrain: Do as above, but open the door before it raises to extended mode

Wouldn't the wheel still drop all the way but the vehicle not raise then?
This means the oposite corner is not as high making it easier to lift the wheel with the flat off the ground?“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

We did it on a remote lane in Wales a couple of years ago. One of the D3's tore a sidewall on a rock. The standard Land Rover jack was all we had to hand and it would not lift the car as it was too heavy and the jack kept sinking.
We raised the vehicle to off road height, supported the jack as best we could using a piece of wood, then selected access height. This had the effect of lowering the car onto the jack, and the wheel then 'retracted' just off the ground. After a couple of attempts, we realised that opening the door at the right point stopped the car raising.
Here is a photo of the incident 8) (by eck' some old faces on there)

Good tip.

Don't know why LR don't offer something along the lines described as a way to change wheels on air suspended vehicles. Would be miles better than the rubbish jack supplied withe vehicle.
After all, Citroen offered this in the sixties on its DS. Raise suspension, insert support, lower suspension, result wheel off ground. Time taken 60 secs.

Too logical, mate.
"It's a British car; British cars have always had jacks; it will have a jack." Apparently not everyone in LR was as forward thinking as the clever ones on the design team.
On the other hand they could have given the automatic jacking design to the guy who did the EPB 2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods
