Pics and advise pleeeease
It’s bonus month in June, and subject to wife not seeing it I’ve got money to spend on the expedition roof rack I’ve been wanting for the past couple of years.
On the bad news, it looks too late to find the prospeed mk2 that I’ve always wanted ( unless you guys have one you don’t want lol) the terraforma equivalent doesn’t look usable for cargo, bars too far apart and no sight of optional flooring, so looks like I’m going to get one of the platform styles.
Im after up to a 2m length so my awning fits right, and can see that there are tons of suppliers basicaly all selling the same platform with their logo on, there’s not much difference.
I want it as low profile as possible with flexible mounting points. The biggy thouh is it needs to allow he sun roof to open, wife will hurt me if we can’t.
Anyone currently running the same and able to fit without loosing the sun roof? Current main contender for me is the alumod, mainly for price (c£800 instead of £1200)

The Mk2 is sweet alright but like hens teeth! (I managed to get one a year ago luckily enough!)
Direct 4x4x are a good company and have found their stuff to be good quality so it's probably worth a punt at that cost. The OutRack from LR Passion is in a similar style.A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.

I'd love a mk2 also, but struggled so got myself a mk1 on ebay, local, and will refurb it. When the car port is finished later this year I'll get this rack stripped back, some mounting points and rails welded on and paint it (or maybe powdercoat?). Reckon I'll be able to make my perfect rack for less than a new mk3 version.

Was hoping to get 6 or 8 of these to use for accessories and demountable rails etc, but at this price I might have to shop around...

Regarding the sunroof, it allows it to lift up to let air in but I dare not motor it open fully for fear it'll crack the glass.
Rack vs sunroof in terms of importance? I'd take the rack every day.2022 BMW i4 M50. Bought Oct 2022. 10,200 miles and counting...

IMO the LRP Outrack is the way to go …….. remember we met Max (LRP MD) at the LRO Show ?
Personally I hate the sunroof and even the full pano glass roof - hence blanked them all off.
On mine a solar panel now sits above the sunroof anyway, so it’s already a bit redundant. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Thanks all, looked at all the suggestions and spent an age looking at the pros and cons. Baring someone shout invite out “I’ve got one going” I’m going to toss up between the Alumod and the flatdog, with the flatdog currently in the lead.
Both around the same price point, but the flatdog “feels” more robust, and uses a standard M8 track system on top and underneath so think it’ll be more flexible. Just waiting for payday and a chance to drive up there to get one fitted (£150 cheaper if you let them fit it…go figure)
