Changing tyres - no impact wrench and spare wheel

Hi there, about to change the wheels but considering doing it with a jack and myself using the supplied hex wrench in the boot.

The spare tyre is a full size tyre, is it ok to swap it for one of the main tyres including the alloy it is mounted to (good condition) do you have to reprogram the TPMS sensor to recognise that the spare is now a main tyre?

Worried if the swapped tyre loses air, then the TPMS alert would say that the spare wheel air pressure needs checking?

You could always disable the tpms and then use the spare?

Just have to check the tyres manually from time to time which isn't a bad thing as you'll notice abnormal wear, cuts, nails etc.

I don't have it on mine so can't really be of any help in that respect, sorry. In an ideal world, the spare would have it too so you'd know if your spare went flat before you needed it. Wouldn't that be useful. AFAIK it works off rotation so wouldn't actually work strapped under the boot.

I've not had tpms ever and I live perfectly happy without it. One less problem on a land rover. Rolling with laughter

Hope someone can shed more light for you.

Check your wrench fits over all the nuts before anything else. If they've swollen it might not.
No idea on the TPMS on a LR...never had it.

Oh, and I've never trusted a LR with anything less than a 3t hydraulic jack.
Be very wary with jacking up these vehicles (they are VERY heavy) and never get anywhere near to be under it without jack stand(s)

ah, yes heard the nuts expand over time so will check they all fit with the wrench before even attempting!

might crack them loose a bit even also many thanks!

TPMS, not sure if they need reprogramming to assign them to the new wheel locations.

The TPMS sensors sort themselves out after a while - takes a few KM for the car to recognise they've changed.

I rotate all 5 round, and they figure it out. In fact, the spare has thrown up a 'low pressure' warning before so it appears to even monitor that one some how.

Would strongly recommend checking the pressure on the spare though.

Edit: Also worth the 30 or so quid to get a whole new set of nuts whenever you get fresh tyres.

I agree with sub. Never had a problem when fitting winter wheels or a spare.
