PAS pipe burst on holiday - Updated
Is there anyone local to Hulme End, SK17 Derbyshire? I'm on holiday with the family, in the tin tent, and my high pressure PAS pipe has burst, dumping all the fluid. I have to tow home to Norfolk on Saturday morning. I could really do with a viscous fan spanner. Any one close.?Richard

High pressure pipe. Got one on order, but have to drive 15 miles to get it, without power steering.Richard

You are not far from Paddock Motor Spares at Matlock they stock everything for LR, ask them to send one by taxi and fluid of course, I assume you are not in the AA!
DSL at Wirksworth are highly recommended for LR repairs, that probably is where you are getting the pipe from, if you where a bit closer I could help you and I have all the tools. One thing for sure you have picked the right county to break down Derbyshire is full of LR repairers.
As already said if you run the engine without oil in the pump you will ruin it.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks for the replys.
If the one I've ordered is correct, and if I can fit it tomorrow, I'm OK. If not, I'll tow the tin tent off site to a layby, and will phone the break down people. I only have recovery, not road side repair, as I thought I could fix anything!
Would be easier if I had my viscous fan spanners with me!Richard

Have you got a med/large adjustable wrench and a decent hammer with you?
If you can fit the wrench onto the fan coupling it will "shock off" easily with a few hammer blows (clockwise)
Just be sure to do the same anticlockwise once everything is refitted!!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

I have a fairly sizeable adjustable, it just won't quite fit the fan nut. The fan has been off before, so shouldn't be too tight. I did try with a big pair of Swan neck grips ( whilst grimacing) but it won't quite do it. I think I can change the pipe without taking the fan off hopefully.Richard

No a grips won't do it as you need to be able to shock it. If you're desperate and have no other option it can be done with a blunt chisel and hammer. If you strike a couple of blows close to the shoulder, then turn to the next shoulder and repeat it will come undone.
Not a pro approach but sometimes needs must. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Is the new pipe coming from a factors or a garage?
If from a garage can you not ring them to see if you can get the vehicle recovered to them and get them to fit it?

It's being delivered to a localish garage, from Chester LR main agent. The garage has already said they are too busy to do it.Richard

Really sorry to hear this Rich - what a nightmare.
I have TD5 viscous spanners but I'm not sure if they are the same size for a D3. If they were I could drive them out to you tomorrow of you were just a bit closer to Chester... I can't make a gap big enough to do that on your current location (it's 1.5 hrs each way).
Hope you manage to get it fitted without removing the fan! Was it the rubber that split or did a crimped end go on it?D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

The fan cut a gap in it! Don't know why it was positioned such as it was, but it did. Thanks for the thought James, but I'll get it sorted somehow!Richard

Feel sorry for you ...... that’s not what you need on a holiday, especially with a caravan on tow.
Best of luck in getting it sorted. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
