Hi team, been a while.
D3 TDV6 HSE
So aircon died after working perfectly on a long 2.5 day drive. (2400km)
Took it to air con "specialist" who pressure tested, passed, regassed.
Within a day it was not working again.
Specialist now has found a leak in the REAR evaporator.
I am now a chunk of money down with nothing to show!
hashtag land rover life.
Ridiculous quote to source genuine part. I have found one on ebay, (new) for decent price.
They are quoting 4 hours work to replace it.
Does that sound right?
Any one done it themselves?
Pics?
Any help appreciated.

usually the pipes to the rear fail, so be sure these are fine first!
a lot of people disable the rear AC by fitting a different pipe under the bonnet (from a basic model)
This allows the front to be gassed and used.
Good if money is short and you don't want more return trips to the garage.
Pipe part number on there somewhere

Thanks mate.
That is definitely an option.
Not checked pipes yet, live in Australia so corrosion not much of an issue. But worth a check.
As the car gets so hot and we usually put a fridge in the back for camping I'm thinking it might be worth going the extra mile to get the system serviceable.
Also looks like I can get a "new" evaporator for less than the cost of the pipe.
Lots to think about hence was wondering if any one has done it.
I'm ok no the tools but no idea the level of complexity of the job.

I have not read of the rear evap going, so must be very rare, so rare I would say 2nd hand ones are almost worthless, might be a cheaper option?
If you can get someone to pressurise the system with nitrogen and get busy with some soapy water in a squirty bottle just to double check the pipes are good, two of mine have failed in 5 years and both were within inches of their flange connectors.

Digging up an old thread for a bit of a shameless self promotion I've recently had to change out the rear A/C evaporator and filmed the process for anyone looking at doing this repair themselves. Over all its not a difficult job.
I purchased a replacement core from Rock Auto in the states. Normally I look at sellers in the UK to ship to Australia, however most of them I could find all seemed to be genuine units and the price's where quite high. Plenty of aftermarket options from Rock at what I thought where more reasonable prices. https://www.youtube.com/c/ShanesShed_yt
