FBH as parking heater

Greetings from Australia Smile)
Winter is coming as long as my question on how to use FBH as parking heater. Last year I have retrofitted FBH to my D3 and built a custom controller so I can start/stop it at any time. Now I am in the process of adding aux battery to run fridge, lights and other stuff for camping trips. On some trips I may end up sleeping in the car with outside temp below zero, so how do I heat a cabin without starting engine?

I think you will run in to battery problems, the battery drain will to much to run it continually, you would be better off using a separate heater to run for a long time.

There are some quite reasonble heaters if you search around.

There’s no “think” about it! absolute max running(heating) you’ll get is 1 hour and the battery will not start the engine, also with a D3 most of the heat will go into the engine. Sad
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

BUT technically it is possible to make run the ThermoTop V/EVO from the auxillary battery and add a bypass valve (magnetic (electrical switched or manual) and add a extra fan/radiator in the rear for camping/sleeping attached with the cooling fluid system , make use of the existing warmth in the cooling system for the first hour(s) switch/disconnecting then from the engi e and later firing up with intervals the fbh…to heat the second circuit

We did that several times in other vehicles (LR defender camper, camper vans, etc.)

Quite some work but can be done on the driveway so to speak..

OR as Flack suggested.. buy a airheater for the cabin for camping… can also be attached to the existing fuelline/ diesel tank of the D3.. attach it to the auxillary battery and it will be warm all night…

I advice a webasto airtop OR eberspacher airtronic …. Not cheap though…

I see (mainly in the UK) a lot of (youtube) promotions for a chinese copy from the webasto…they seem to work well (in workshops/the shed, etc…)
TBH I wouldn’t trust cheap chinese (crap) in the same cabin as i sleep in, due to possible CO poisoning…
Webasto and eberspacher are both certified products for inside cabin use…. China not and if… mostly faked… your family can blame them if you die Cool i am not sure they really react if they make them liable….

An airheater needs 2 holes in the floor, one inlet, one outlet, quite doable, but watch out for fuel/brake lines when drilling
