Intermittent wiper not working..

Hi all,

After some wisdom haha ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป.

So I've got a 05 HSE. When I use the intermittent wiper, it doesn't work basically. When I click it up a notch, I get one sweep from the wipers but then it doesn't work. If I click it up again, it does one more sweep but then nothing.

Any suggestions what could be causing it? Is there a relay that could be causing the problem??

Thanks folks ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Well you have a rain sensor. So that's probably the issue.

Try turning them on, and then wipe your finger across the sensor on the outside.
Watch the blades as they will get you Rolling with laughter

If you have a gap idd, you could disable the rain sensor in the ccf to have normal internittant (ensure the battery is topped up before hand)

Could be the motor getting old.

Mine did similar, then would stall trying to start a wipe, or struggle on the 2nd wipe if set for constant on.

Changed the motor after the wipers gave up in pouring rain on a dual carriageway in the dark.
Shocked

I have a similar issue except my front wipers donโ€™t respond to the intermittent setting at all! The rear wiper reacts when I adjust the dial but the front ones donโ€™t do anything. I have changed the intermittent wiper relay and checked all other fuses.

All other wiper settings work fine. Itโ€™s just the intermittent and itโ€™s just the front.

Any ideas?

Rain sensor fault, assuming you have one

I thought that, however according to the manual when you increase the intermittent speed on the dial, it should give one initial wipe, which it doesn't, which leads me to believe its something else.

One thing i have noticed is that when your stationary or very slow, the normal and fast wiper speeds should change to intermittent, but they dont, they just stay the same speed. Correct me if im wrong but could this be something to do with the park switch?

On a car with rain sensor, the dial does the delay of the rear wiper.

Regarding dropping a setting when you come to a stop, this only applies to non rain sensor cars I think. (or could be a CCF setting )

I would say it's your rain sensor

As in my eariler post. Wipe your finger across the sensor and see if the wipers are triggered

Ahh I see. That makes sense. How big of a job is that? Can it be done at home or will it have to be a garage to do it ?

DIY

Not sure in these. Biggest issue could be glue ing it back on.

Just pull out fuse 18 - disables the rain sensor, restores intermittent wipe functionality.

Has the screen been replaced? If it's something other than Pilkington, that might be the issue.
