No Back Lighting - Dash / Console Switches |
|
Good Evening, I am a week into owning my first Land Rover D3 I am very happy with it, other than one issue that has come with the car (private sale). I'm wondering if anyone could help or has resolved similar issues.
After getting the car home i went to turn the sidelights / headlights on and found that none of the instrument cluster backlighting was illuminated also the switches on the centre console and window switches were not lit.
I then found that actually the side lights front and rear were not working, this led me to the light switch fuse under the bonnet which had blown, every time i put the switch side lights on this fuse would blow.
I have since replaced the switch with an ebay replacement and the side lights worked, i thought i was onto a winner BUT the dash and console lights are still not illuminating.
I have moved the dimmer switch around this makes no difference. I have also checked the instrument cluster fuses which are fine (one of the instrument cluster fuses had a 10amp fuse instead of a 5 which seemed strange - someone has been there before ?)
I'm struggling to know where to go next, could it be the switch short has blown all the bulbs or leds not sure what they are ?
have i bought another dodgy switch and the dimmer maybe doesn't work ?
is it something to do with the fact it has a new stereo head unit ? pioneer double din where the original radio and controls should have been.
something that may be worth mentioning is that this d3 has had headlight and rear light mods - the headlights are DRL wired directly to the battery all seem to be working and wired in well, the rear lights seem to be d4 upgrades again seem to be working fine. The car has spotlights wired to an after market switch on the dash this switch is always illuminated.
sorry for the long winded post but i thought sharing as much info as possible may help. I am interested to try and resolve it without the need for an auto electrician just yet.
Regards Brett

Maybe try a light bulb instead of a fuse. 10w one in this case and then prod around.
And/or locate where all the red wires join together.
