Any Swiss members blanked their EGRs? |
|
Sorry to spam the main forum with this, but has anyone in Switzerland with a Euro 3 TDV6 blanked EGRs and got a pass on the "abgas" test? is there reason to think blanked EGRs would cause a test failure?
After a long trip last week I find my car barely wanting to move and the error code P140D-00. The trouble is, here all Euro 3 diesels must pass a bi-annual "abgas" emissions test (which is measured relative to vehicle model). I'm looking into that test properly for the first time and it appears to test for diesel particulate numbers. Is this feels like what an EGR valve would mitigate.
I'd prefer the cheap and easy fix a blanking plate would offer!
Cheers!

Just had a look online to try and find some details of the Abgas test, guessing it’s similar to the UK emissions test but it’ll be worth finding out the pass / fail threshold. In the UK, blanking the egr is an MOT failure, however a friend of a friend of a bloke I know ( ) blanked theirs like a large number of owners, in the UK, MoT inspector is t allowed to remove the engine cover so inspection of the EGR and it’s pipes for the blanks is too difficult as long as you leave the egr pipes connected. Blanking doesn’t affect the emissions enough to fail a UK test, but I’d compare the numbers, I would guess that Switzerland may be a bit more stringent on emissions? 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

Well, you could just try it? If it fails, then you’ll know you’ll have to fit new egr’s.

Niche topic update: I installed the £10 slotted brackets, for the car tested and it passed. Emissions particulates were just under 1% higher than before, and very close to but just under below the maximum threshold set for this car/engine. The test result was equal to but not below the minimum exhaust particulate threshold set for this car/engine. I was worried that I might be rumbled by the minimum value.
Despite particulates increasing, the exhaust opacity, which is reported but not evaluated, decreased significantly, relative to previous numbers. Not sure how these number relate to each other, but I am grateful that I’m not buying and changing EGR valves!

As I understand it, EGR's reduce NOx.
The UK the MOT does not measure NOx as the sensors are expensive.
Maybe your country is the same.
