MOT Failure?

Spotted this while adjusting my EPB (using the guide on here Bow down )

is it an MOT fail? anyone attempted fitting the gaiter kit from AF, is it as straight forward as it looks?

Both my rears looked like this (or worse) through the last MOT and weren’t mentioned. They’ll go through the next in two weeks time looking the same. Thumbs Up

(They’re getting replaced this spring. One is leaking, and all four have build date stickers of 12/2004 on the can, so they’ve done well!)

All four struts & bags were replaced in 2021, the originals had been on until then. Once replaced there was a massive difference in the ride and handling - almost like a new car. Over the years we hadn’t noticed the gradual worsening of the original components! Rolling with laughter

One of the rears now has a small tear in it, would be interested to know if it’s worth replacing quickly, does ingress of dirt and water make deterioration occur quickly? Or is it a job that can wait a while?

Neither of my rears leak and who knows how long they’ve been torn. Certainly the last nearly 2 years and 13k miles, mixture of mild off road, salty road, stoney road, motorway, pretty much everything but sand really!
If mine, like yours, were fairly new, I would certainly be replacing the gaiters for longevity. But I wouldn’t be rushing to it with the weather fairing up and the roads cleaning up. I’d maybe force it into super extended mode it and give them a good rinse so there was no grit trapped within.

Yup! 18 years, 1 month and 6 days since first registration and 172k miles on original bags. Poor ol’ things. I took a friend of mine for a run the other day and he made comment that it wasn’t anything like his old 07 plate D3, and not a patch on his 16 plate D4 (git).
