Reasonable budget for maintenance?

Hello all, first time LR owner here Shocked

I bought my D4 2016 Graphite a month ago. c85k miles. I had an AA inspection done before purchase, which didn't flag any major issues. I've also compiled a matrix of the service history and other than one oil change which went a bit beyond the LR interval everything has been done as specified. I'm searching for a deal on a second hand GAP IIDTool now, so I can avoid committing any of Christian and Vera's "sins".

My question is, what do you think is a reasonable budget to set aside for maintenance? Obviously I've read all the horror stories about snapped cranks and clogged turbos, so I know the answer can be "a lot".

But what would be a reasonable expectation when looking over a three year period?

I've put £2,400 / year into my budget for regular servicing plus repairs. Curious if experienced owners think that's about average, too much, too little?

Thanks!

Welcome. Nice car. Thumbs Up Keep an eye open for GAP tools across the other sites as well. 👍🏻

As for budget, I don’t think you’re far out. Also, in the paperwork, does if he took if the inlet manifolds have been done. It’s a know fault on these and about £1600 if the pair if done together.

Thanks Moo! Great to get some perspective from someone with a lot of Discovery experience.

No - the car's not had the inlet manifolds replaced, so that's one to watch out for. It has had a replacement EGR and air compressor in the past year, so that's two pricey jobs I hope not to have in the near future.

That seems a good enough figure, put £200 per month into NS&I Premium Bonds and hope you get lucky both with them and your Discovery. Smile Thumbs Up

If you know what your mileage is likely to be per annum, you could be a little more precise with estimations.

We know when belts need to be changed, oil & filter every 6k miles is prudent. Suspension components typically need replacing every 75k-125k miles etc. etc.

All the information is on here. Thumbs Up

Thanks LT - great idea to try and hit both jackpots Laughing

Also good point on the expected mileage. I'll only be doing 5k miles / year, so planning a maintenance schedule on this basis. I found this checklist https://media.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/...2012MY.pdf on the forum which is really helpful for the service intervals, so thank you to whoever posted that. I'm assuming that the intervals are the lesser of mileage or age, so I was planning to do the camshaft timing belts later this year for example.

Thanks grzesiul - really interesting. I had planned to get an extended warranty from either Warranty Direct or WarrantyWise, but got cold feet after reading page after page of negative reviews from people that had tried to claim.

In fairness, most of the people that tried to claim seemed to have unrealistic expectations of what the policies cover, but still I have to confess it did put me off. I'll do some more reading on the insurance/warranty part of the forum though!
