I’ve just moved. I’ve informed my car insurers and they want more money. Not just the £25 admin fee but an increase in premium. I’ve moved to a much nicer area. More rural and not on the edge of Birmingham like my previous address.
I’m being told its because the new postcode could have had more claims etc etc . Take it or leave it sir. Something smells. I could understand if I moved the other way - from the sticks to edge of Brum. I think I’m being conned.
Can my postcode be checked?

Some rural areas have more crime and thefts, so it could be right. How about using one of the comparison sites with your new address and see what’s being quoted. If it’s close to what your existing lot want then you know they aren’t having you over.

I'd go elsewhere for your insurance...Jim

If it’s a wealthier area, there will be more Range Rovers and Beemers, and as they get targeted, it’s a riskier area.

Have you tried NFU Mutual?
I don't know exactly how they underwrite, but for some like me, they offer very competitive premiums.
Sadly, I can vouch for how good they are when it comes to dealing with a claim.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

NFU Mutual have some strange quirks. I insure my Tractor with NFU, but they won't quote my Discovery. This is rural Norfolk, I'd imagine NFU insure lots of 4x4 farmers vehicles?Richard

I’m with NFU for my L663 Defender. I live in not so rural south Manchester!

Yeah, their underwriting is a total mystery. All I can say to anyone is try them and see if they work for you. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

NFU do our house insurance but won’t do our car insurance.

NFU quote was double the next highest quote when I was looking. They couldn't explain why......
