It was a great surprise to me to find that I could play MP3 cd's. Does anybody know if it is possible to navigate the folders on the disc or are you stuck with playing track by track.

Andy,
To navigate folders on an MP3 disc just press the buttons to the left and the right of the 0 button (I think they have a < and > on them)
Hope this helps.

...or buy an iPod
Plug it in to the Aux socket or have it integrated with a cradle... works a charm !

PS And you save on having to buy and burn CD's too. Just create an album in iTunes for whatever mood takes your fancy... and play away !

shameless Mac promotion from Simon the Mac Man again!!
But I must agree, I use my Ipod Minis ( yes I have several!!) connected to the Aux port.
Of course you do loose the ability to change tracks on the steering wheels controls!!

Nige... of course !
But you can use the controls. There is a company that does a cradle that allows you to use the CD head unit and steering wheel controls for navigating your iPod.

PS i know I'm shameless... so shoot me

Simon, I am interested in this ipod kit you are on about. Not for my Disco, but for my wifes Mini Cooper. The MC has got the Harmon Kardon system installed, with remote controls. Does the ipod interface work with any vehicle?
Let me know if you can, would make a good birthday present - she is ipod mad, and has to have all the gadgets. Anything else ipod related thats new and worth having?? (inside knowledge??)

You should have a look around www.newministuff.com - I bought the iPod cradle kit for my Defender (yes, I know it's not a Mini) from Mike who runs it but he knows a hell of a lot about the Mini audio systems - he'll tell you exactly what you need to interface to the H/K audio system and the controls.
Mike's dead helpful, 100% recommendation

Most "retrofit" interfaces to external media devices (iPod, PhatBox, etc.) simulate a CD changer... the BMW/Mini "branded" iPod solution works like this. The head unit just sees it a CD changer. (On the BMW... it can't be installed in a car that already has a CD changer, for example.) As time goes on, we'll see more "real" integration, though. On the other hand, the new Volvo "official" interfaces I've seen are little more than FM transmitters on a few of their models.
(Alpine did show an example MOST interface for the iPod that manufacturers can develop products for. There is hope for the future.)
Simon, did someone really make a Disco 3 kit that uses the integrated controls? Also, if I remember correctly... the Disco 3 stereo was designed with Alpine, but the amplifier & speakers are Harmon/Kardon.

I'll try and find out if anyone has one specifically for the DISCO3 and let you know.
But yes... they mostly are seen by the head unit as a CD player and use the steering wheel controls.

Hello
if you have a look in my Gallery you will see that i have an Ipod installed into my D3, it is in a dension cradle which i modded using a cheap ipod charging cable and a 3.5 phono lead that connects to the aux plug in the back, I will be doing some test for a supplier of mine to help them make up a wiring loom that will just connect to the back of the head unit later this week, at this moment in time you can not control the ipod but you can get power and audio, control will come soon but the issue with the D3 is that it uses a fibre optic bus for the audio, I also know that alpine who make the head unit are working on a ipod solution.
I have have my ipod in my past three cars and I have fitted one in just about most of the members of families cars and they all think its great.
I get the kits from Lee at www.ihavetohave.it he is very helpful and really knows his stuff, mention my Name and he will do his best to be competitive and helpfull
