Tdv6 camshaft housing bore diameter |
|
I’m going to replace the 2 x cylinder heads on my 100,000 TDV6 55 plate.
Rather than buy new, I’m going to get second hand, and as the camshaft housing journals don’t
Have bearings, I can’t see what the factory journal diameter and camshaft diameters should be.
Just so I can assertain if the bought heads are any good. I could get refurbished but again it would be good the check clearance with plastigauge like I did on my old td5 head…
Where could I find this info as it certainly isn’t in the workshop manual…

David,
The data I have (from a Ford engine build document) gives:
Cam shaft bearing bore diameter - 26.000 to 26.021 mm
Cam shaft diameters - 25.940 to 25.960 mm
Resulting clearance 0.040 to 0.081 mm
Hope that helps.

TDV6 2.7 Camshaft diameter, and camshaft wear... |
|
So I have finally got around to getting a second hand cylinder head, and I'm in the process of measuring camshaft journal diameters to check wear and out of round.
For both the LH Inlet camshaft journals on an original LR camshaft. 4R8Q-6A271-AB
As well as theLH exhaust camshaft again on LR camshaft 4R8Q-6A273-AC
I am getting micrometer values of 26.45mm +- 0.01mm with wear deviations of 0.03mm..
I haven't done Camshaft cap diameters yet as I need to take out the glow plugs..
I'm also going to get some plastiguage to check journal clearances are within spec.
Can anyone confirm these camshaft diameter readings and camshaft journal size as the above figures don't seem tally with my findings..
I also have some pics of light scoring on a couple of the journals... Should I change the camshafts...?
Finally I'm have some hydraulic lifters which need to be replaced, LR brand are really expensive, and there seem to be various brands as a replacement OEM.... INA,FAI,FEBI,AE RIDEX, BGA....
Does anyone know which is a better brand? have an opinion for a head rebuild..?
Thxs

David,
I have just measured 2 x cam shafts (from different 2.7 engines and got a diameter in the tolerance I gave earlier. Maybe later engines (mine are 08/09 engines) are larger?
Or is your measurement tool accurate and calibrated against a known standard?
