My D3 is an ice cube! Except this spot…
Hi all. Title explains it, but the attached pic will help. It’s been sub-zero here for a few days, even in the sun, the frost hasn’t melted off the poor old thing. Except in this spot beneath the drivers wing mirror…
I’ve never noticed a battery drain, but I also have it hooked up to my NOCO when I’m parked at home (lots of short runs locally), and when I’m away from home it’s run well every day so always charged.
Only thing I can think that might be in here is connectors for the wing mirror, which I also have a handful of permanent faults relating to. B1C13-3A (2F) and B1C14-3A (2F). Could these be related to the tiny warm spot, before I go about tearing the door card off in sub-zero temps? 2 birds, one stone etc. Fix a potential unnoticed battery drain and my mirror in one go?

The sun being reflected in the mirror or nearby glass and heating that patch just enough to melt the frost?2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

@PeteK No welcome lights, or none that work if there are…. But pretty sure there aren’t.
@LT this is the north facing side, with a building behind to the east so this side never sees the sun when parked here… The other side does, midday to late afternoon but then it’s gone again… meaningful sunshine here at the moment is 1100-1500, and it’s still not warm when it does come out It is at least a lovely dry and calm cold, not our usual wet, windy and miserable cold. Very cold though.
@DSL I text a friend of mine earlier wondering about this and he suggested a donkey had relieved itself in that spot…
I’ll maybe get it apart at the weekend when I’m away and have some spare morning time in said friend’s barn. Is there a common cable rub point in the door, or more likely just a badly connected plug? Can’t imagine what’s in there that might be a permanent live though!D4 XS Commercial - MY16 - Corris Grey

Instead of taking things apart, just leave the battery disconnected and see if it still happens.

Oddly, noticed something very similar when I was ordered out this freeeeeeezing morning to defrost mrs ronp’s motor.
But this time I was allowed to start the engine to go through the defrosting process.
Whilst at the rear, I noticed there were two (similarly opposed ) sections in the boot panel that showed the exact same defrost spots.
Very strange
Btw, didn’t mention it to her ladyship, in case I’d have to strip down and find the cause ……

Where’s the fun in that? Do we not own these things to take them apart?
I’ve decided to ignore it for now. Too bloody cold!D4 XS Commercial - MY16 - Corris Grey

If you look at the mirror cover, it seems to be "frozen mist", it falls from above when temperature goes below zero and accumulate on vertical walls (doors) starting from upper side.
I suppose that mirror acts like an "umbrella" in this case avoiding frost accumulation just below it...- Easy-Lift suspension module 4.0

Odd that it’s only this one side, and only this vehicle. There’s 3 parked with a snowballs throw
Dash indicates -3 this morning and it started better than in the summer months, idled smoother right off the bat while defrosting and was less smokey… It likes winter!D4 XS Commercial - MY16 - Corris Grey
