Discovery smoking heavily at idle

Hi, I have a problem with my 2.7 TDV6.
120,000 miles on engine, it is working extremely well and pulling very strongly.
However, at idle it smokes extremely heavily, and appears to be putting out unburnt fuel (diesel fumes rather than steam).
It does not smoke under acceleration or under load.
It is not using water.
It is not pressurizing the cooling system.
We have changed two injectors, but it has made no difference.
We have recently removed the catalytic convertor and replaced it with a straight pipe (as flexible connection broke).
The Webasto heater was disconnected several years ago.
The car has been well serviced (about every 6-8000 miles since engine was new).

Has anyone got any advice on how to solve this, or even how to fault find?
Thanks

I would still say injectors.

I have heard of decatting causing white smoke as the DOC was hiding the fact the injectors were on their way out.

You did not say what colour the smoke was?

White smoke

Thanks for your response - that is helpful.
Please see below photo of colour of smoke.
It is often much thicker than this, but always only at idle.
The smoke has a very strong smell - fuel/diesel.

Hi - yes. It turned out to be the injectors. We changed them for a set from a working car and it solved the problem straight away.
