My D3 'Stickers' as she's known as ,...
I thought I'd start a 'my vehicle ' to document my engine change.
So I started prepping the D3 on Sat for dropping the chassis out. I also thought that I would drop the oil and check it. Nothing in the oil so I dropped the sump, but nothing in there either. I then checked the oil pick up pipe and found these little Censored ! Looks like bearing shell material possibly? Non metallic.
Well at least I know it's now really worth changing the engine 🤣👍😁
So far the worse bit about lifting the body is the small bolts on the lower bit of the bumper shearing off apart from 1. The rest I am just taking my time and working through the guides on here and also the piston broke garage video. I am in no rush but it's going fine so far. Let's hope the rest goes as well.
Tried posting an image but it didn't go for some reason? What you guys using to post images on here please?
Anyway here's a link to the pictures so far. As an update everything bar the engine electrical plugs, and a few other bits are all disconnected now it was so far, a really easy job.....

Are you trying to post images directly from your phone or from a desktop/laptop ?
That's quite some undertaking but been done by a few on here... do you have a ramp?I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

You need to upload pics to your gallery (on this forum).
Then copy the link and paste when you make a post.
Welcome btw and good luck with the D3. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Nearly ready to drop the chassis
So, that's me nearly ready to drop the chassis out. Must be my lucky day. I found the previous owners 10mm socket and the engine turns I er without any untoward noises, I can feel some compression so not a snapped crank. Maybe it is 'just' a valve or a piston dead due to the failed injectors? Either way it's coming out in full and I can play with it another day.

I know you don't need to take off the front slam panel but I really want to give everything a really good clean decrease and paint whilst I am doing this and the rad pack could definitely do with a spruce up😁actually, I might just fit a new rad whilst I am in there.

So, it's been a while since my last post but I can report that my chassis is out and I am starting to prepare my new to me engine to go in
New oil pump fomoco and seal original LR seal.
New timing belt and all idlers and tensioners
New fuel pump belt and tensioner
New cross over pipe and turbo
New torque converter
New brake pipes front to rear
Painting the underside of the body too
I am also going to fit my 2 brand new injectors to the the 2 cylinders against the bulkhead as these are the most difficult ones re access.
Is there a way of having my other injectors tested? Ideally I'd like to fit another 4 new ones but don't have the funds at present. The ones in the new engine are unknown but the engine ran extremely well before. Chances are I'll fit the 2 new ones and then just replace one a month afterwards. However, if I could get the spares tested locally (Moray NE Scotland) then I would prefer to fit 4 of the best ones now as an interim measure.
Also stripping the chassis down and treating it with rust encapsulation paint followed by paint top coat and filling the chassis with dinatrol.
I am also considering replacing the suspension arms. Is it the rear uppers that are the most difficult? If so I'll do those and leave the others as they appear to be ok.
Probably end up doing a load of other jobs too but not rushing it as I want it done right and only have evenings and Saturdays to play with it. Any advice re the injectors would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
Picture shows the removed chassis with old wheels and tyres on Inc a space saver lol

You may also want to consider changing the glowplugsAndrew
D3 2.7tdv6 2005
D4 3.0 SDV6 Commercial died and gone to LR heaven
D5 3.0 SDV6 HSE
Some of those are really worth the effort of posting "properly" on here !
What I'd like to see is how you got the body off when using the scissor-jack-ramp-doofah to raise the car !!
You just have to get inventive. Jack up the vehicle on the scissor ramp after prepping it to remove the body. Once the vehicle is high enough then support the body on axle stands where a 2 poster ramp would be placed on the the outer edges of the sills in my case in the concrete blocks and lower the chassis. Once you have space between the body and the chassis slide structural timbers between and then raise the chassis back up to also lift the body off the stands. Then replace the stands at a wider spacing and lower the chassis and body together. Once the timbers this time rest on the stands thereby supporting the body, you keep lowering the chassis until it is clear and then roll it out of the way. Then raise the lift up again to take the weight of the body on the sills and remove the timbers and lower the body down on to axle stands. Simples.
