D3 Seat Conversion

Good Evening,

I hope you're all well.
Could anyone advise on the potential routes i have to upgrade the front and middle row seats please.

Currently in a GS spec D3, but the seats are tired, drivers especially, and the kids complain of a lump in the passenger side of the middle row.

Do I need to look for manual seats, or would electric HSE seats etc be an option?

Also, any advice on seat material - do I want leather in summer or if we're out in the mud? etc

Many thanks for your time

Elliott

It depends if the wiring for electric seats is present in a GS. I’m afraid I don’t know if it is or not, others will though I’m sure.

It might help if you state what year it is.

I never bothered with seat covers in my D3. The leather was much tougher than in later model D4’s. I just always kept a tub of leather wipes in the vehicle.

Morning,

Many thanks for the reply.
It's a 2007 D3.

I'll do more digging internally to see if the cabling would be there for the seat electrics - not bothered by heated seat function.

I hope all's well

I converted the seats in my D3 - 2 HSE seats in the front and leather 2nd row.

The thing with the hse seats is to get power to them for movement. You have a connector under the seats anyway for the seatbelt bongs (!) so have a look and see what other cables are there. I had to get someone to run cables from panel behind footwells to get power to seats. Easy job it you know what you’re at Very Happy

Never went about the heated aspect but can be done. You need to change the hevac unit on the dash under the radio which is another simple thing to do. Ebay or breakers should have them

Ring around and/or email as many LR breakers as you can and try get the leather seats. Mounting points are all the same for different d3 specs. Just the functionality you need to resolve. Best upgrade to make imo

You could always put Range Rover Sport seats in the front, much more supportive than Disco seats !

Afternoon,

Thanks for the comments.
I'll get looking for some sets then.

Do you know if the RRS rear seat fits also - only ask as most are listed in car sets.

I'll contact some breakers to see what they have.

All the best

Rear seats are different design (fold differently), it has been done but is a lot of work... A good set will probably be not far off the same price as individual front seats.

Good Morning

I hope you're all well.

So I picked up a pair of front RRS seats, initially the amount of wiring under there was a bit daunting.

I started testing and decided to wire direct to the motors, via a relay bank.

Fairly straight forward to sort, managed to use al the LR seat switches so no need for any additional rocker switches etc.

One question though, does anyone have a layout of the coloured connectors under the D3 seat, so I put the RRS connectors to the right sensor, please.

Thanks for the advice, plan to get them installed this morning.

All the best

Interesting, I hadn't noticed before but yes, my 2005 D3 HSE black leather seats are as tough as old boots. Alright, there's a few scuffs and a bit of weakening in the support under the entry thigh on the driver's side, otherwise I chuck all manner of s#!t on the back rows, in the footwells and generally don't give too much thought to care for the leather. They've held up remarkably in the time I've had it, and given that the car is now coming up 18 years old.

Hi, sorry I can't help with your question, but I'd like a bit more detail on how you've wired the switches etc. Is it easy enough to attach the wiring to the switches? What relays did you use, I can see they're not standard auto style ones.
I've been planning to fit electric seats to mine but don't much fancy the only moving 1cm at a time! I have heated seats already, so that's not an issue. If you fit heated rear seats and need a switch panel, I might have one but I've a feeling I may have binned it, I'll have a look if you do.
Cheers Paul

Evening,

Seats are in and working.
As pointed out, the SE switch bank fits straight on to the D3 wiring.
The passenger seat doesn't have the Mem settings and was a 10 min install.

Though I enjoyed playing with all the cabling really.

If you end up needing relays I'll send you all the info and wiring diagram.

Glad I did it though, i didn't realise just how tired my original seat was.

All the best

Hi,
I've not seen any electric seats without memory. My old D3 SE had memory seats, this one's an S and has the heated seats but not electric. I've fitted the passenger seat and that's all working fine. Any idea where I can get an electric seat without memory? Cheers
