Dashboard shutdown

Hi I’m wondering if anyone can shed some light on this for me please?
While driving all the dials on the dashboard fuel, temp, speed and revs all dropped as if the ignition was turned off, but the radio kept playing and there was no loss in power while driving, all dials returned to normal after a couple of seconds.
When I 1st noticed I thought I had imagined it as it returned to normal so fast Shocked
This has been ongoing for a couple of weeks now and seem to be getting more frequent, or maybe because I’m more aware of it happening and looking for it to happen.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Bow down
Thanks

Its most likely a dry solder joint on the dash circuit board, a very common fault on 2007 onwards cars as Fords changed to using lead free solder.

Def sounds like the solder issue. You might see a fault message on the stereo screen when it happens “vehicle failure” scared the Censored out of me when it happened to me at 60mph in thraffic Smile look up totaltronics. You can pull your cluster and send it to them, they’ll diagnose and fix, no issues = no charge.
In the meantime, next time it happens give the cluster a punch, I found I could get it to error then fix with a good punch to prove the fault.

Thanks guys, it is the 2007 I have but I wouldn’t know where or how to get to the solder, looks like it’s getting booked back in.
Thanks again for all the expert advice, don’t know where I’d be without this forum Bow down Bow down

Send the dash off to totaltronics they will repair and fully test before sending it back.

Another recommendation for Patrik at Totaltronics - he's the man to speak to with this problem, without a doubt.

Anyone know of a similar place in the Midlands? My 58 plate had just started doing it.

Hi Mindless, totaltronics we’re in Rugby, unless they’ve moved, but doing it by post still gets your cluster back in 3-4 days

Is there a guide for taking the cluster out and how easy is it?

It’s pretty simple, removing a couple of bits of trim round the steering wheel and 4 screws, couldn’t find the manual page but this is good enough to see.

One nice thing about totaltronics is if there isn’t a fault found they only charge postage to get it back to you.

They moved to Wareham on the south coast sometime ago.

I recently removed the instrument cluster from my Discovery 3 and had it repaired by one of the many companies who now do this.

However, having refitted it (and, the intermittent power loss problem is now resolved), the driver's seat no longer automatically moves into the correct position when the key is put into the ignition.

Are the two connected, or is this coincidental?

Thanks, aja.

I was being a bit slow there...

I must have accidentally knocked it when I was removing/reinstalling the cluster.

All resolved now.
