Driver seatbelt replacement?

Hi All,
The drivers seatbelt on our D4 isn't retracting as fast as it did, meaning you either have to ease it back into place or risk closing the door on the buckle.

I'm assuming there is no easy fix, other than replacing the belt - anyone had this and can share any thoughts/tips? I'm assuming it's a pretty easy job to replace the belt?
 Cheers,

Gareth

Try spraying the inside face of the belt with some silicone spray, then wiping with a cloth. Pull all of the belt out, and spray it while it retracts.
I do mine about once a year, stops the belts hanging out the door when you close it. Always improves the retract speed.

Ah interesting - wasn't hopeful of a possible fix. Will try that, thanks!

Pull the belt out completely and immerse it in warm soapy water massaging it to get the dirt out.
You'll be surprised how much muck will come out!

Once clean, rinse it in warm water and hang it fully extended to dry. When fully dry (overnight) spray the entire belt on both sides with furniture polish, (Pledge, Mr Sheen, et al)
Again massage it into the belt and then allow it to retract.

You won't have to do it again for years. Thumbs Up

Erm... I'll let you know when (if?!) I eventually get some time to do anything about it. Too much else going on to have a chance to look at it yet.

Its one of those things that annoys me every time I get out of the car but then gets forgotten about until next time - as its my wife's daily driver it isn't bothering me enough yet to spur action, and doesn't seem to bother her at all.

Got a load of suspension stuff to sort out as a priority first too.
 Cheers,

Gareth

I took the trim off my own yesterday as it has been slow to retract for ages. Sprayed some
Silicone spray in round the reel. My investigations showed the culprit is more the top mount as the reel itself seemed to bring the belt on quickly.

Some really good advice here. Had issues with non retracting belts on one of our cars for ages. Then came across this item. With the MOT coming up, thought I'd better, at last, get around to doing something about it.
Wiped off the whole belt with a soapy sponge, let it dry and then used silicone pipe fitting spray on kitchen towel and ran the whole belt through it a couple of times. Couldn't get to the reel at the bottom as sealed inside plastic trim and couldn't be bothered to work out how to get the off, but paid special attention to top mount that the belt runs through as mentioned. Worked brilliantly. Been years since it has retracted so well. Took 10 mins ! Wish I'd done it sooner.
Cheers
 Gary
