What is this red light blinking for on dashboard?

We have a red light blinking at the bottom of the rev counter on our 2007 Disco 3. It only comes on when the engine is switched off and it stays blinking when the vehicle is locked. We went away on holiday for 2 weeks and I was convinced that the battery would be dead when we came back, but no, the car opened normally and started straight away. I just can't seem to figure out what it is trying to tell me.

Any ideas?

Is there something I need to do to it? I have had the car from new and I have never seen this before.

It's to warn thieves the car has an alarm, so to stay away Laughing

They were all the rage in the 80's

P.S I hope you have fitted a new oil pump to your pride and joy.
Otherwise 2007 cars can destroy the engine

No I have not had the oil pump changed, it has done over 150,000 miles and not had a problem (so far!) I had not heard about changing the pump before.

If the red light is to warn thieves, why has it only started lately?

Maybe you just noticed it in the dark.
Or maybe there was a dash fault and it’s working currently.

Time for an oil pump and cambelt then I think.

It has been there since the car was new - you just have not noticed it before. If it is flashing it also tells you your is immobilized.

You need to learn more about your car - you need to have your oil pump changed as a matter of urgency else you could have an engine failure as a result. Not a given but a real possibility.

Thanks everyone, I was really worried when it started this the day we were going away on holiday. As you say, whatever the reason why it didn't work before, it is working now, cheers.

As for the oil pump, I am going to take it to a LR dealer to get it changed very soon!

Thanks

I'd suggest finding a good indie in your area rather than LR dealer. You'll save a fortune AND get the job done at least as well, if not better.

As Dean says going to a JLR dealer is really not a good idea.

I'm sure there will be a decent Indy in your area - whereabout are you in Lincolnshire?
