D4 SDV6 Split Inlet Manifold - anyone done a temp repair?

Hi All

So far getting quoted a booking window of a month (or more) to get my split inlet manifold repaired. Has anyone on here succesfully done a temp repair? Saw a few posts online about 2 part epoxy, clean, abrade and bond.

Many folks will post these repairs but my guess is few will go back online to say ‘ well, that didn’t work’

So interested if anyone has managed a sustained repair? Or anyone experienced a fail? And what you did, used etc…

I’m still going to get it changed, I couldn’t bear months and months waiting on a pop Laughing I just really need my car over the next month or so, so this is just to buy some time

Thanks as ever for any experience offered

John

i repaired my (previously) stripped egr plate threads and a crack in my inlet manifold using this method.
Made sure it was seriously clean and used both 2 part glue and also used a smal screw (heated up with a blow torch) pressed perpendicular to the split across both sides of it and into the plastic and then epoxy over the top of the screw and crack.

10k miles later it is still holding up fine.

on the egr plate holes i filled them in layers over two days (too stop the inner glue not exposed to air from melting the plastic) and then drilled a pilot hole into it to be able to screw the plates on.

not a OEM mothod i realise but its worked fine

Moo, Will.i.am, Thanks both!

Really appreciate you both taking the time to input. So a carefully applied temp repair to last a few hundred miles is definitely viable

Did an initial clean with degreaser tonight. Pulled foam covers out the way and a clear crack of about 4 inches. Not a huge amount of room but I believe I have made enough access to attempt a temp repair. Will get some suitable bonding material tomorrow.

Also have managed to get it booked in for next Thursday at a well regarded specialist. Huge improvement on the initial outlook from the first 5 or so places I called. So my repair just has to last a week - just really needed my 7 seat Disco this weekend

Anybody tried those plastic welding kits to do a repair?

I've done some repairs on motorcycle fairings and they seem very strong.
